I'm jealous.

Ever done anything like this before? Did you get a wrecked vehicle, or just the motor? Which tranny will you use?

Best of luck.

No, never removed a tranny or an engine before. I bought this wrecked 2001 Tacoma for a donor: http://community.webshots.com/album/383446112ZpbXpN

I'll use the 3.4 auto tranny with a marlin adapter to a pair of 23 spline gear driven transfer cases (Marlin's ultimate crawler). The 3.4 transfer case has the front driveshaft on the wrong side.

I'm also putting on a supercharger with 2.1 inch drive pulley, URD fuel mods, and water injection. I already put the Walbro 190 fuel pump in.

The auto tranny will be getting a valve body upgrade and two extra Tru-cool LPD coolers (http://www.importperformancetrans.com/coolers.shtml ) to help handle the extra power. I'm hoping to get close to 300HP.

I'm going to use the stock 3.4 exhaust manifolds with ORS's custom cross-over

and 2.5 inch mandrel bent pipe from the cross-over back (anyone know where I can find some 2.5" mandrel bends)?

I have the complete ORS conversion kit: http://www.offroadsolutions.com/tech...n_kit_auto.htm

Good luck, man!
Just think, I COULD have given you some tranny swapping experience a few years ago, if I hadn't decided to go the easy route.
Wish I was down in Edmond to help ya out/gain experience.

Yeah Christian, never roasted anything with my 150 hp 3.slo, that will be a new experience. I already put on a Budbuilt traction bar to keep my 33's from bouncing. I modified it a little so it would protect the driveshaft from rocks better.

I decided to use the weld-on bracket that Bud sells as an option. I also added some extra bracing at the top and bottom of the weld-on bracket:

This was a very satisfying day, got the engine bay all washed out,

It had never been washed out in the 13 years I owned it so I couldn't wait to get it clean (I was possessed like Monica). I started with engine degreaser but that only helped with the grease and oil spots, for the rest of the dirt I used a scrub brush and a toilet brush and a bucket of soapy hot water. It would have been nice to have a power washer, but I don't.

In the process I discovered a blown bushing on my torsion bar rocker arm (Superlift part), so I had to tear the whole front end apart too. The good news is with the engine bay empty getting those bushings out is much easier.

LOL, yeah that bumper was highly polished by the time I was finished with it. That plus I put some cardboard under his leaky engine so it wouldn't drip all-over my garage floor while I installed the bumper on his truck.

I did go 13 years without cleaning the engine bay, so maybe I'm not "Mr clean"

What kinds of mods need to be done to the fuel system for the supercharger. I've bben thinking about putting 1 on but I'm not sure if I can justify the cost yet. Good luck with the swap!

Just curious how you are going about with routing the exhaust/crossover pipe/manifolds, etc. from the 3.4 on your swap?

I decided to use URD's fuel kit: http://www.urdusa.com/index.php?cPat...f13b50a24ab54b and URD's A/F ratio calabrator:http://www.urdusa.com/product_info.p..._id=1230100028

Yeah as Rocket pointed out, ORS has made my cross-over, except the pic that Rocket posted is the older style before Mike started using a flex coupling in the cross-over. I'll go 2.5" mandel bent tube from there straight back with a flex coupling or two. I may TIG that up myself if I can find some 2.5" mandel bends, appearantly no one in Okla has a 2.5 mandel bender.

I have a Car Sound cat and a 24" Magnaflow muffer. The 01 Taco had a 2 cat system but no way am I putting a 2 cat system on a 93 truck. I'll use one of these if I have a problem with the ECU not liking the one cat:http://www.urdusa.com/product_info.p...f13b50a24ab54b

Yeah it has the "real" TRD package with e-locker, and yes it really is too nice to part out, so I may end up rebuilding it for my next project. I drove it around yesterday one last time before I start draining all the fluids. It runs and drives great I replaced that broken lower control arm in the pics before driving it of course.

As you can see here the 3.0 and 3.4 auto shifters are a lot different:

I made a cardboard template of the bottom of the 3.4 shifter and cut the floor board for the new shifter:

I saw this link on my many searches for info and liked the idea of keeping my center console as stock looking as possible: http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/autocrawler/ So I ordered a console for a 1989-1995 4cyl 4WD AT Truck with gray interior (part #58802-35031-BO). I think the BO part of that number is the color code. The parts guy said there are not many of these consoles available. It comes with the leather boot but I ordered a second boot for my extra TC shifter that will come up (hopefully) in the middle of the coin cup thingy.

As Phil points out in his write-up the 4 cyl auto console matches the rest of the V6 console very well but because the 3.4 shifter is higher than the older auto shifters it requires either raising the whole console off the floor to match the shifter or cutting the console up so the shifter can stick up through it. After test fitting for a while I decided to go a different route than Phil and try cutting up this brand new $50 console.

After cutting and fitting and cutting and fitting and cutting and fitting and.....30 more times cutting and fitting, I got this:

My plan now is to make a little skirt to cover the cut out for the shifter. I have no doubt I can make it look good it's just a matter of how much time will it take
