3.4 swap FAQ and great link thread

Awesome link that RobD posted up in another thread that was kinda buried.

http://www.andrewzook.com/content/view/22/48/1/2/

Please post up your good information and links in this thread to help future 3.4 swappers as it is kinda scattered all around this section of the forums.

There are numerous build threads that are great to read but all the good tech info kind gets buried in them so if you have a neat tip, trick or helpful link, please post it up here!

Thanks for contributing!

Another one, not as logically laid out: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...0&pagenumber=1

I'd also suggest Toyota's Techinfo website for the manuals and wiring diagrams: https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfo....toyota.com%2F

Here's a link to Injens intake system install instructions for a 98 4Runner. Shows some close up pictures and a description of where the vacuum hoses go/what they do.

Can anybody tell me if a '99 3.4L would be just as good of an engine to S/C as an '01?
Not really, the front O2 sensor changed to a wide band air/fuel ratio sensor on the later models and it does a better job of adjusting to the extra fueling needs of the SC. The year of the change depends somewhat on the model vehicle. Check with URD for the exact model years that had the A/F sensor. I know my 2001 Taco 5VZFE used the A/F sensor and that was the first year for the Tacos IIRC.

Just to clarify, its actually the ECU year that matters, not the engine year but the engine harness and the ECU need to match for wiring reasons. So its best to get the ECU, engine harness and engine from the same donor truck.

That being said... it is still ok to put a SC on the earlier models with an O2 sensor, its just a little harder to tune right.
