there is a gusset that goes there and under by the oil pan that straps the two together. One for each side..
Nevermind its junk without those. You should sell it to me!!! SHould be an easy junkyard part to find.

I'll get a pic later on if I can, I'm not able to go to the shop. Right now I've got it all bolted up abut there is a opening/gap on the bottom right of the trans/engine which I assume is covered by the bracket on that side. I dont have either driver/passenger side bracket.
Thanks, Chuck PS: if anyone has them, thatd be awesome.. but it doesn't seem like this would be something "laying" around.. |

don't you have the ones from your 3.0L? if you did a 3.4L swap from a 3.0L you can reuse those brackets.

No, I'm the idiot who is swapping one in his 1985 22R equipped vehicle. I have NO earthly idea WTF i am doing.... and loving every minute of it. My brother talked me in to it and a week after the engine got here he skipped town and got a job out of the country...SO, i'm learning as I go.

You know, those guys are optional. They weren't on the 2000 3.4 and tranny I got either, and I didn't put them on cause I was too lazy to clean the gunk out of the unused threads in the block.

Well, my engine 99' and I am using the stock 5sp from the Tacoma with it. I got an adapter from Marlin and am using my duals behind it.
Here is a pic of where she sits: |

Guys- I finally got my hands on the brackets and it looks like either they are they wrong ones or its not what i need.
I have a fairly large gap (plenty big enough for mud, small rocks, etc. to get through) from the bottom or my engine to the bottom of my manual trans. I thought maybe the brackets would over up the opening, but they don't. I'm going to fab up a small piece of sheet metal to cover it up and bolt that directly to my trans to keep stuff out. I just wanted to let everyone know in case someone else was wondering. |

Are you missing the very small steel sheet that goes in between the trans and the engine? That would keep all of that out and is down there. Hard to tell with out good pics.

There is also a rubber seal that goes on that cover.

You are looking for the rear engine cover that goes between the lower part of the engine and bellhousing. Those brackets are on the 3.0s I believe and not required on a 3.4. If I remember correctly on the 3.0's the brackets are used to hold the rear engine cover plate in place where the 3.4 it is held in place by the bell itself. Toyota has those plates for under $30.
