2000 3.4 in to 89the extra cab 4x4

I have done a ton of home work biggest thing im worried about is the wiring. Tried going to that techinfo site but they only go back to 1990. Was wondering if it would just be easier to buy a harness from toy only swaps. While others say its only like 17to wires also not sure what all the talk of a boss relay is for. Some have it and others don't . Thanks for any help ahead of time.

I've wired up 6 swaps now. All of them manual to manual. Wiring is not super hard but just takes time to identify and properly connect the right wires to each other. 89-90 are just about the same as far as wires go. Having the whole donor is nice because all of your parts will match.

Of course it would be easier to buy a harness.

That being said, there is a lot of money to be saved by doing it yourself like anything else. Also, you are going to learn a lot about your vehicle. Furthermore, you'll be able to come to these forums and act like your an expert.

The EWD for a 1990 4runner matched my 89 4x4 pickup perfectly. Mine had the 22re though, that may not matter.

This last weekend I got what I think is every thing unbolted, undone from my donor vehicle. Engine is ready to come out. I've been reading more on the wiring really trying to get fired up for it. Received good feed back from a few members and today I got to see a running swap he ever had a super charger defenitly inspiring me for what is possible.

Get it out and send in the crossover to Toy only swaps, Cliff there will get it done and shipped out real quick. While thats being done you can mod the dipstick/oilpan and get all the wires figured out. All the connections should take maybe 1.5-2.5 hours to solder them all correctly. I don't think you even have to worry bout the spedo wires because thats a cable from what I remember correctly on an 89. The wires to that run to the tranny should include the reverse, transfer pos, and the o2 sensor, you will need at least the first o2 which is actually serves as an narrowband sensor for the factory ecu. It will not run right without at least this one connected. The rear one can be bypassed to not pop a check engine light because i think i remember you saying you did not have the cat or sensors. Also know there is not an emission issue requiring these in the area. The ADD is also simple couple of wires, nothing to worry about.

Just caught this- made me LOL a little

OP, watch DNTSDAD's video on wiring in the "Swap 101" sticky thread. It shows you how to effectively and efficiently read an EWD. It's exclusively how I learned to read it. Also, Adobe Acrobat reader (I'm using 10.1.1, free reader version) allows you to search. You don't have to have the full blown Acrobat. I would encourage you to do your own wiring, but it's nice that there's a fallback option.

Got the 3.4 out of the donor yesterday, pulled the crossover pipe off and got it ready to ship to toy only swaps, it was still light out so I started pulling a bunch of stuff off the 3.0 getting that ready to pull out. Super productive day hope today goes as smooth.

I have done two swaps, and used the throttle cable off of the 95 and the 91 and they both worked fine. I did have to slightly bend the throttle cable bracket forward on the 3.4so it wouldnt idle as high, not a big deal.

Toy only swaps charges 175.00 plus shipping for the crossover mod. I saw you built your own, just kind of out of the spectrum for me right now maybe on the next one.

Funny thing. Yesterday it hit me like a ton of bricks that this swap is actually happening. It funny when you research something for 2 years then it actually starts happening.

Did you get your oil pan mod done? Weather this saturday does not look too good I know you work on this thing on the weekends, nonetheless curious about your progress.
