1989 Pickup 3VZ to 5VZ from 1998 4Runner 4x4 Manual Trans 89661-3D362 ECU

So I got around to getting the motor in with a custom fabbed crossover, I'll have to change it when I go to bar it. I ended up having to use the 3.4 power steering pump but I changed the pulley to a v belt pulley from an Isuzu trooper. I also had to add about 1/4" of shims behind the a/c pump to clear the block.

Well I thought this writeup was going to be a little more informative. After getting the motor in the truck everything was pretty straight forward. I still have to fab a mount for my Evap box and I still need to buy my own intake box since I'm borrowing a friends. Anyways motor is in the truck, I got it fired up yesterday. I missed a vacuum line and that threw a check engine light, but after I got that fixed no more check engine light. Looks like my wiring is pretty dead on, I'll find out if everything is working after I get my exhaust finished today. It was nice tho, it fired up first try, no chasing wires to figure out if something was in the wrong place. Rockin!!! Also the pulley swap I did to retain my stock belt setup worked like a charm.

Ok, so update time. I took my truck out on a lil wheelin trip 2 nights ago. I gotta say this 3.4 is a beast compared to my 3.0 although my 3.0 did run very well. Since I have not gotten around to buying some o2 sensors yet I have a Cel for it and I think it is affecting my performance, I was going up a hill and I had no low end power unless I was WOT which made it kinda hard off-road since im either lugging up a hill or my tires are spinning. I hit the highway and it's like I have the ultimate VTEC, I was just pulling out from a stop sign and the power kicked in and lit up my tires. The o2 sensor didnt kill my gas mileage though, I was on the trail for about 5 hours in first and second gear stop and go here and there to watch my buddies traverse some obstacles and I only burned about a 1/4 tank. Anyways I wanted to let you guys know that I did not change my stock COR, I just connected the proper wire. I have yet to run into any problems other than the suspected o2 problem. Oh ya, my boy put his truck on its top coming down the trail, smashed up his nice 84 pickup. That is all for now.

Oh and if anyone can get me a pic of the 96-98 Evap diagram on the hood it would be greatly appreciated. The diagram I used was from the 2000 4Runner, but I think a few things may be a little different.

I got it figured out, I found a buddy with a 97 and I traced everything.

Still Running

Just an update to let everyone interested to know that the swap is still running. I've put it through its paces and it is doing great. Next on my list is a locker or LSD from a Supra. Not too much to report. Happy swappin and wheelin everyone!

good to hear you're still going. I dont have issues with any of the swaps I've done hooking up the the FC signal from the Maf to the proper FC signal spot on the COR.

Nice write up. I'm doing the exact same swap. 94 4runner mt to 98 4runner mt. Hopefully your schematics can get me through the wiring part.

I'm still looking for a 98 mt ecu. Although I did come across a 95 t100 mt 4x4 ecu and harness. I might go that route.

I don't think the op is still around but my swap is done. Used his schematics as a base point and it worked flawlessly.
