1988 Motor Mounts?

*Motor mounts, not moto...I've been riding motos too much lately, ha.

Getting ready to do my second 3.4 swap, first one was in a 1987 22r pickup, this latest one being in a 1988 3.0 4Runner SR5 5spd I got with a bad rod bearing. Donor motor is from a 1998 4Runner with a 5spd and 4x4.

I've been searching around and having trouble figuring out if I A) need to use the cast mounts from a 1990+ 4x4 B) Can in fact use the stock mounts or C) Have to cut off the original frame mounts as 1988 used the 22re frame mounts and weld on new frame mounts and use different block mounts.

Can anyone confirm any of this? Thanks!

Use the 3.0 motor mounts on the 3.4 block, then it'll mount to the 3.0 frame mounts without modification.

The 90+ mounts I presume? I was looking at trucks in the junkyard today and the 22r mounts are way forward of mine and all the 3.0 mounts.

I'll pull a set of those mounts off tomorrow regardless. Sounds like the stamped mounts on the 88's won't work with the 3.4 A/C compressor.

Now that you mention it, I do remember hearing something about the early 3.0 mounts not working with the A/C bracket, but I don't remember any of the specifics.

I used the mounts from my '91 3.0 and they fit fine, so you're probably onto something with the '90+ mounts.

See Post 66

Take a peak at post 66 of my swap thread. I used the 3.0 motormounts both the block mount and the frame mount. There was a little modification needed to get it to fit with A/C bracketry.

Just read through your entire build thread, excellent!

I have a set of newer mounts coming so from what I have gathered those should work, or it looks like I could mill my current mounts down to correct size to work with the A/C compressor. Once I get to that stage I'll post up my final results.

Also picking up a long travel kit for the truck this weekend as well so there will be plenty to do in the near future...
