"Heres a shot of a guy who just applied two coats to his Chrysler Crossfire driver's side door. He later says in the thread that he's applied 8 more coats. BTW - The car is black."

The runner I shined up this past weekend was that shiny after I finished, yet it was raining outside when I took pics and I didn't want to get it wet before the owner came and picked it up.

FWIW, it only took (1) coat of Griot's BOS to be that shiny, not a ridiculously wasteful (8).

I know nothing about wax, when I wax I use the cheap stuff I get at the fair. But, I thought I would pass it along since I know that is important to some folks here...

I couldn't say that one brand is better than another or anything of the kind, but the picture is striking.

Yeah, I saw that somewhere too. I believe it might be on LA Zaino's site as well.

Having used both Griots and Zaino, I prefer Zaino for its ease of application and what it does *not* need do to get that glassy, wet look.

Regarding the use of Zainos, you barely use any product to coat your vehicle. Last weekend, my friend and I Zaino'd his entire Nissan Murano with 4 oz of swirl remover polish. We used an additional ounce to cover up some hood scratches. Just 5 oz.

Again, you hardly use any of the product and it goes a long, long way.

Edit: I'm not sure if its 5 fluid oz. Zaino provides a little bottle that is marked with a sticker. We went to the 4 mark and then added another 1. But in anycase, i use less Zaino than I ever did w/ any other product.

As far as what it doesn't do, it does not rely on removing a fine, fine layer off the clear coat to make the scratches level w/ the clear coat to make the scratches disappear---a big plus in my book. The properties in Zaino actually fills and masks the scratches. We did 3 coats on the hood area alone and you cannot see the scratches unless you take a magnifying glass. If we do an additional 2 or 3 more coats on that specific area, i doubt we'll be able to see it at all, even w/ a magnifying glass.

And lastly on the whole coat issue, the great thing about Zaino is that you can build different layers (coats) on top of each other without having to start from scratch. For example in the case of my friend's hood scratches on his Murano, we did some swirl remover (Z5) coats, the finishing spray (z6) and a finishing coat of Z2 (the actual polish/wax). If we wanted to lessen the appearance of the scratches even further, we could just apply another coat(s) of Z5, Z6, and Z2 to finish. That cannot be done with conventional polish/wax products because the polish product is an abrasive and essentially, you'd be polishing off your wax (if it wasn't worn off in the first place) and the original polish. Or, you'd have to Dawn it and then begin the process all over again.

Anyways, I'm just stating the reasons for my preference for Zainos and not putting down Griots or any other products. In short, they all lead to the same result---just a different path.

No you don't need to do 8 coats of zaino.

I can get the same shine as what waskilly linked with one coat of zaino but more applications give it a deeper shine. And like what Bob said... hardly any product is actually used to coat the entire vehicle. It's like nothing I've ever seen before. Simply amazing. I've tried many many many other products and zaino is the best I've used and will not try anything else. I however have not used griots but since I've already found the perfect product...

Wow, great pics. You guys are driving me craaaazzzzzyyyyy. No, I'm OK and better be with a closet stacked with Griot's kit. My bottom line is this: How long would it take to detail a new car that doesn't need the clay step, Griot's vs. Zaino, using both manufacturers directions including drying time? Either way looks incredible, plus I'm surprised to see the evident improvement in paint application from D-C. Must be the infusion of German talent into the paint department, or Zaino really is a miracle polish.

I think you might be suprised at the good a hand job would do for you and your runner. If you are worried about fatigue, you can always pay Ramon to do it for you in Bellevue. I hear his work is beyond compare. After all, you don't have to do it yourself you know.

Here are two pics of my truck about a month after I got it and did a hand BOS wax only after wash and it took about an hour.
Reflection from my hood.

My son in the side door in the shade along with my elbow.

And my photo skills suck. The carnuba based BOS has alot of benefits. Don't send the Griot's back without trying it.
