A new battery doesn't necessarily have a charge in it, or enough of one to spin an engine.
Plop it on a charger or hook up another battery that you know has a charge.

Is this your only vehicle? Any chance that you have kids who have one of those electric ride-on toys? Those batteries are usually 6v or 12v. Do you have _anything_ in the house that runs off of a 12v-15v "wall wart" power supply? Camera, stereo, lights, PC speakers? Those wall warts can work as a trickle charger - they'll take a while (4-5 hours) but they'll work. If you still have the old battery, you can wire two of them in _parallel_ (plus to plus, minus to minus) in order to kick up the current. Or... catch a ride with the buddy thjat doesn't have jumper cables , head to Shucks and spend $30 on a charger.
