My truck's temperature reading takes a while

I've noticed within this last week that the temp needle now takes about 2-3 minutes before it actually starts giving a reading. Before that it stays all the way at C and sloooooowly creeps up at about 2 minutes.

This is on my Tacoma and happens regardless of whether I'm idling or driving, in the cold of the evening/early morning and in the peak of heat in the afternoon.
I don't seem to remember this happening before. Anyone have any feedback?

if the engine is cold when you start it, i'd say it's normal...it takes a couple minutes for the coolant to warm up enough to show up on the gauge...i bet it did it before, too, but you just didn't notice it...every car/truck i've ever owned has done that.

might try comparing it to your runner and see if it really takes a lot longer for the taco to register a reading.

if it does that when the einge is hot, then the gauge or sending unit is prolly having issues.

Okay thanks, maybe I've got Toyota SUPER red in there or something
Unfortunately I don't have a battery for the 1st gen at the moment but (Tacoma stock died and I needed a replacement ASAP) so that'll probably be one of the first things I do when I get it running again.
