Last week, the idle starting dropping on my 89 4runners 3vze. Easy to write it off as "well, the TB is probably getting dirty again." "well the headlights are on."
It got to the point where the truck was idling at about 250RPM. (yes, my truck runs fine at that low of an idle.) Everything seemed fine. Ran well. Milage was the same as always, Huh!?
It turns out that the o ring on the idle bypass adjuster screw has dried out and shrunk in it's 247,000 mile life. The screw is VERY easy to turn. It is so easy to turn that vibration and suction screwed the idle bypass scres in all of the way. Hence, the dropping idle speed.
Cranked it back out for now. I'll put a new oring on it or a drop of threadlock someday.
