I replaced mine at 50k and it was still good. So, I would not change mine more than that. Most gas is of the same stock, only additives are different. It could depend more on how much crap you have in your gas tank.

If your running good don't worry about it. I replaced mine at 70,000 and noticed very little difference, I just figured it was time for a little preventive service. Mike

I am getting a bit of hesitation accelerating in higher gears. I just changed the plugs, and while it is a bit quicker out of first, the higher gear hesitation is still there. I have put fuel injector cleaner in here and there, along with a bottle of Marvel's Mystery Oil. I am going to clean and check my PVC valve after I am done typing.

Good point. Fuel filters are $35 and easy; fuel pumps are $350 and a PITA.

I changed mine a few months after I bought my truck-that is when I finally got up the nerve. It had about 110,000 miles on it at that time. I cut the old one open and it was pretty dirty-all the way through. I had a post with a picture of it somewhere.
I found the picture. Apparently it had about 120K on it at the time:

I was told by a Toyota technician who said when in school several years back in the Toyota mechanic program or whatever it's called that toyota fuel filters with 150,000 plus miles still had good or better filtration abilities as other manufacturers fuel filters when they are near new or new.

I got my 1st gen with a little over 145K and one of the first things I did was replace the fuel filter. Looking at it I knew it'd been done before because it wasn't Toyota OEM. I put in a NAPA filter and could definitely feel the difference.
Toyota reps have repeatedly insisted that these fuel filters are lifetime. I'm more prone to replace mine at 100K. I'm coming up on that number with my Tacoma. I'll definitely post whether or not I feel much of a difference. |

I just changed mine for the first time at 131k. I didn't really notice any difference afterwards, I just figured it was time and for $25, why not.

i have considered changing it in my 2.7L taco at 100,000 miles (very soon). but like everyone else is saying, Toyota and the dealership say that it is a lifetime filter. i am considering it now especially since i will be installing a S/C, and i think it will be a lot easier when i get the intake manifold off. i somehow doubt that it will make a difference, since my truck runs like it did 95,000 miles ago...

I have had my ride for about a year and a half, and just hit 125k this weekend. I didn't get any service records with her. With little previous vehicle knowledge (thank god for this forum!), I have been trying to go over her with a fine tooth comb.
<96Runner>: I just did the plugs. Densos were in there and lookin rough. I put in NGKs. She seems to be running a bit better after the 17 hours of driving I jut got done doing.

I don't know how much of a difference it makes from a Toyota vs. GM vehicles but I would recommend replacing the fuel filter ever 30k. You'd be surprised at how often the pump will go out and it ain't cheap to replace either. Just for insurance change it.
