Headgasket update.

well... they have the block apart... it was the head gasket... so they're fixing that.

also they are doing a valve job, they said that some of the valves weren't closing all the way and were starting to burn and warp... so that's gonna add and extra $400 to the job....

so I'm going to be without the 4runner for like 2 weeks total, and out a butt load of money......

Yeah, $400 for a valve job? I think you're getting forked. Sorry to hear about the HG, too. At least it's not something worse, I guess.

22r/re is alot different that a 3vze head. More valves to replace in the v6, more of a PITA to work on, harder to adjust vavles, etc. A friend of mine just had his heads rebuild and it costed him about $400 for a reputable machine shop.

I know how much it sucks to have your truck crap out on ya, today I think i found out my truck has a burnt valve. How much is the whole thing gonna cost you?

I don't even really know what the cost is at this point... it was $1100 for the headgasket, and that $1100 was assuming I didn't need to replace any other engine components... and now $350-400 for the valve job... so $1450 if i'm hella lucky... but it will most likely be like 1600 or so...

If you haven't already, you might want them to replace the waterpump, timing belt and idler pully thingy.

Since you're throwing around money as it is...

Welcome to the wonderful world of the 3.0.

Folks, you are all comparing two different machines.

A 22R/22RE is nothing like a 3VZ-E.

Four hundred bones for a valve job does sound reasonable to me.

I have been quoted seven hundred bones for valve adjustment.

It is a time consuming and delicate job.

doesn't the 3VZE use lifters and shims to adjust the valves? ugh...

I'd love to swap it out, but I can't have my truck out of commission that long.

After successfully adjusting my valve trains, I can say that I FULLY understand why they would charge 400 to do it.... My engine is sooooooo much quieter now too! Now the loudest thing under the hood besides the fan are the 6 injectors all making that wonderful sound of 'TICKTICKTICK....' at idle. Lost a little power, but I expected that as now the duration of lift is a little shorter on 9 of the 12 injectors, but now they are in spec. Before, those 9 were not... (Maybe I didn't loose power as I did get used to driving a 318ci v8 Ramcharger...LOL)
