Flushing the Radiator on a '98 4Runner SR5
Hi Guys,
I'm going to flush the radiator on my '98 4Runner SR5 for the first time. Let me say first and foremost that I am a novice. I can change my oil and add fluids, but this is the most complicated thing I have ever attempted. I saw your How to on the site, but I can't find the Radiator drain valve. I called my local dealership and they said it was under the driver's side, but I still don't know what I am looking for. Any suggestions?

Here is a picture of a valve I found underneath the engine in the center very close to the front. I'm afraid to open it for fear that it may be something else than engine coolant that comes out

Got your PM and decided to post here for ya.
Make sure to use the long-life RED coolant only! (no green stuff!!!)
Here is where the coolant drain is on your 4Runner:

Thanks man. I did infact use the red coolant. It's pretty expensive, $15 a gallon at Toyota of Orlando.
Oh, and in case anyone else was wondering, yes, the picture I posted was in fact the radiator drain valve. You'll find it on the bottom, posterior side of the radiator, directly in the center. There is a hole in the skid plate large enough to fit a pair of pliers inside to loosen the valve. Unfortunately, it doesn't like to flow through the hole in the skid plate, so have two collecting containers ready, one under the whole and one and the back of the skid plate.

I couldn't tell what the heck your pic showed....maybe up through the skidplate.
Next time just take the skidplate off....it is just 6 bolts and you get much more working room.
......and far less spillage.
