Any ideas of whats wrong?? Need Help!

I have an 87 toyota 4runner, rebuilt the engine and had it goin for 2 days. Now it will not start, it is firing and it is getting fuel to the fuel rail, the injectors are not opening is my guess, i just dont know why? i replaced the start injector time switch and it will start up and die. A mechanic told me my computer sounds like it is working, any ideas of what is wrong?? I am having alot of trouble, no one knows what is going on wrong. I check all the pressure to the fuel rail and everything looks good. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks

I had the same problem with my 85 supra it would start run fine for 1.5 sec then die. It was the fuel pump relay. When you start an efi motor the computer is in start mode and by passes the sensor that tells the computer the motor is running and turns the fuel pump on, once started the computer goes to run mode and fuel pump relay kicks in and keeps the fuel pump on. Hope that helps.

I just checked the factory manual for another post on same problem, if you jumped the fuel pump by the test pod under the hood this turns on the relay which in turn turns on the fuel pump, so if the relay is bad you will get the same problem. The relay is located in the pass. side kick panel above the efi computer.
check relay using a VOM meter
STA to E1 = 17-25 ohm
+B to Fc = 88-132 ohm
+B to Fp = Infinity
The manual calls this relay a "circuit opening relay" Toyota some times use the same relay for other things like rear window defrost, high/lo beam relay, A/C relay so you might have a test relay on your truck. P.S. all info was taken from a 85 truck manual so yours might not be the same but I hope it helps. I know you said that you have fuel at the injectors but when you start the motor the computer bypasses the relay so the pump will kick on for 1-2 sec and fill the fuel rail with gas. After the computer goes into run mode the relay kicks in and keeps the fuel pump on.

I've had that problem on occaision. Usually all you need to do is reset teh ECU. Have you tried that yet? Pull the EFI fuse in the inside fuse box above the driver's side kick panel for 30 seconds (at 68*F, longer at warmer temps) or the negative battery leads. The ECU is apparently pretty stupid in these 97's and needs to be reset when you darn near anything. When I've worked on the AFM, it happens every stinking time I pull the plug to it. I have to remove the plug, pull the battery leads, install the plug, wait a minute or two (it's HOT down here) and put the battery leads back on. Maybe worth a shot anyway...
