your better off finding a newer tranny and using an adaptor from marlin crawler...
dont rebuild your current one because it could just keep on breaking, changing your gears in the tranny isnt needed..change the ones in the rear end

did you replace the tranny the last time or have a shop do it?

a shop did it - don't know anything about the source/quality of the rebuilt they put in.

the '79-83 trannies weren't known especially for their strength. '83 had the L52 which is the strongest.
marlin crawler can rebuild your tranny with bigger bearings and a gearset from a later model G54 transmission which is much stronger. you could also put in a later model transmission but they're about 4" longer and you'd have to relocate the crossmember, shifter holes, and resize the drivelines.
