2nd time HG BLOWN, buy NEW motor @ only 130k or rebuild?
hey everyone...
though i read all your posts alot ( thanks ) i dont usually log in..
anyway.. my friggin' head gasket blew on me .. i know usually does on the 3.0
its all ready had the factory recall done once.. they WILL NOT do it again, and the STEALership wants to charge me $2100.00 to do repair ( including valve adjust ) .. i figure for about another $1500.00 or so.. i could have a whole new jasper motor instead of just fixing the top end in this one with 132,xxx.. i would do the work myself, but
1) its my daily driver
2)i live in an apartment and DONT have my own garage right now, arrggg.
3)not much time.
.. so what do you guys think? spend a little extra and get a new powerplant,
or just do the top end on the block that has all ready blown two HG's ?
( not doing a 3.4 swap, too much $$ right now )
thanks for any ideas..

If you want to keep the engine, the crucial thing is to find our WHY the head gasket blew and fix the underlying cause of the HG failure. I lost a few on my 22RE and ultimately traced the problem to a partially clogged radiator. Would only overheat in very hot weather and driving at high engine RPMs. If the temps were below about 80F or the engine RPMs below about 3000, it would run perfectly cool. But push it a little and it would overheat just a little. Never got into the red zone, just a needle width or two higher than normal on the gauge. That was enough to warp the head just a little to cause a slight HG leak. After fixing the cooling system and putting on a new (not rebuilt) head, it has run nice and cool for the last 6 years.
