From what other people have said that have done a similar swap, they say that they acheived from 30-35mpg from this swap. Which is better than the toyota diesels that people swap and I think that they pulled in the mid twenties with that swap.

So got in the garage last night, pulled off the old bell housing. Put the new bell housing on and it fit like a glove, next bolted up the engine and everything looks great, tons of room on all sides to work on this engine when it gets bolted in, no clearance issues whatsoever. Now I just need to fab up engine mounts, fab up intercooler mounts, re-install the engine with the clutch on, and figure out the wiring and plumbing for the cooling system. Hopefully the injector pump shows up this week so I can get this thing running before school starts.

Alright, so I have it almost all together, engine is back in, everything is almost plumbed up, I just need to deal with the wiring. Having trouble locating a pin out diagram for my ECU. My ECU is on a 94 with a 3vze manual transmission, it is a 26-16-22 pin ECU. Anybody have a diagram, I would greatly appreciate the help, not in my manual that I have, and haven't found one in an hour of searching on the Internet.

Question for you, what do you think about moving the tranny & tdi forward a few inches (moving the rear tranny mount and longer/shorter driveshafts)? I'm guessing that you did not do this.

I was just curious as some others (on the VW forums) had suggested doing this for better clearance for the engine. Wanted to get your thoughts on it.

Yeah, no modifications needed. Plenty of room all around, for example you can fit a 1/2" socket wrench between the engine and the fire wall to install or remove the bell housing nuts and bolts. This engine fit in there great. I am very please with this project, I can't wait to get it out of the garage, hopefully next week I will be dieseling around town.

is that pump bases off a 4bt or is it a tdi pump with 1.6 guts in it? reason i ask is that some of those mtdi pumps aren't that tuneable and wont advance the timing enough to make some serious power, not to mention the limitations with a small pump head and 17mm shaft. the 4bt based pump has all the fueling potential you will ever need and i have seen on some vw forums these pump slightly modified and rollin some coal

From what I have been told, it is a combination between the 1.9 TDI pump and The AAZ style mechanically controlled pump. They say that I can go up two sizes from a 10mm pump to a 12mm pump and get plenty of juice out of it. I'm not trying to hot rod this thing, just want some good diesel power with the ability to drive comfortably on the highway.
I still have not received it, they said it would be shipped last Friday, so we will see how it goes soon.

ok cool but to be safe i have heard with a 17mm shaft and 12mm pump head you rish snapping the shaft, you can always upgrade to 21mm shaft if it becomes a problem. i am considering this swap for another project AKA "Oil burner" a 2wd 88 that will be my daily. cant wait to see some more pics.

Ok, I take it back, it is based off a 1.6. It is tunable with a via one screw which allows you to turn up or lower the amount of fuel that goes in there, about the timing, the fuel is going to burn when it is compressed, not like a gas engine that will burn when the fuels is ignited with a spark, so I was to believe that pumping the diesel in their sooner will not create more power and that it is all about how much diesel and air you can shove into the combustion chamber, correct me if I'm wrong. And yeah, if you start messing with things too much, you will break them. I'm going to start out with power that is higher than a 22re and the 3vze as far as hp. torque on the other hand will quickly pass up the 3vze as it only had 180lbs if I am correct. The people that I am buying the pump from Tell me that this pump is set and produces the stock hp and torque of the 1.9tdi which is 100hp and 150ft/lbs. A twist of the fuel screw and the boost control and up it goes. I plan on having it chassis dynoed at a shop a freind works at to get some numbers on it. I can't get to crazy with this thing, as this is what is getting me to school and to get to school I don't require going over 45mph, which should be no problem with the little torquer that I put in there.

I have allot of work scheduled to do on it this week, and it will be on the road next week, pics and YouTube videos will be coming soon. I have not been able to document this project as detailed as I would like, but got plenty pics, which is what says the most, right.
