Sorry to bring this from the dead, but in case other people view, I wanted to correct the misinformation.
Toyota axles are strong. I had a 1jz 2wd truck with stock axles pushing over 400hp. It had welded spider gears at first and took it like a champ. I then switched to Detroit trutrac LSD,stock axles still, and it held up fine. Many burn outs. If you put a v8 in, that's a whole dif story. Lots more torque off the line.
There's a 9 sec 7m truck with stock 4runner 6 lug rearend.
As for bellhousing, you do not have to custom make one. You can put a r154 Input shaft into the r150 and us a stock 1jz bellhousing from a 5speed. It'll be direct fit to 2jz also.

Really ! my automatic 4runner transmission will bolt up to a 2jz if I get a r154 input shaft and use a stock 1jz bellhousing? Will the 1jzbellhousing bolt up to my r150 transmission

Id say do the swap, leave it at stock boost, see how she goes. If you blow up a rear end who cares? Toyota rear ends are cheap. It seems people let a good v6 axle go for like 50 to 150 bucks so just try it?? Plus like said before its a turbo inline six not a torqueee big v8 so if your driving style is right and you roll on power i dont think you will be too worried on te street.
Now offroad? Well again whats your driving style haha. Again its a car engine and its turboed so if your out of boost which is most likely if your crawling rocks then you arebt making 320hp any of the time. Get dual cases and just idle over rocks like a 22re. Theres no doubt toyora axlea were made for a max of a 3vze's 150hp and that you can expect anything more than that. But we are talking and engine that needs boost o make that 320 or tuned 800 area. Stay out of boost in rocks and while launching and i think you have a good chance at making the yota axles work
Heck ive been in a 650hp mk3 with a 2J and its very relaxed out of boost. Then when u see the hwy coming up and you gotta get in there it takes no time at all lol 140km/h and still spinning isnt bad either heh.
Just get the engine. Get all needed for the swap then start Checking out shops. Untill then id say start saving for at the very least 8 grand in. And dont worry about how hard or nore expensive it is than any swap out there. Its a 2JZ you can have 320 to well as far as u can reach in you pocket haha! I say go for it! And like said get to the axles after it runs and can make it to the store and back. Goodluck dude! Oyah its still a 3.0L he he he!

Found the answer to my question in another forum..........Using a 1jz-GTE bellhousing swap the output shaft and housing from a R150 onto a R154 then the R150 transerfer to your 154 and the entire tranny setup should bolt to the 2jz.
I assume this setup is to save you from having to cut and weld bellhousings together

dont worry about the axles they will be fine. im running a 2jzgtte with all of the BPU's done on a stock rear end with 31's. haven't broken yet, just clamp your leaves or build traction bars to control axle wrap because it is fierce!

2jz swap into a 94 pick-up that had a 22re
OK! I have been reading all day about how and what to do to make this swap.... But every time I read it's never directly about a 2jz. I have a 22re that has 289,000 miles on it. I want to do a motor swap to the 2jz. I have read that I can get a non-turbo 1jz bell housing and bolt to my stock w-56 tranny. Then bolt the 2jz. My big question is, will I have to cut into the fire wall to fit it? Now, it is a single cab 1994 4x4. I would like to here any info on this because i want to start the build at the end of the month. Thanks for the help

i wouldnt use that trans. if anything get an r150. a w56 is going to be at its limits behind that mill every time you hit the gas. if you want to keep it a manual get a 2jz with an r154 and swap outputs with an r150 4wd version. to make a 4wd r154 that will bolt to the 2jz. if you think about it a trans thats made to roll daily with 100 hp isnt going to last long when you quadruple the power input. with BPU's 400 hp is an attainable goal but the upper limit of the stock system. get a trans that will last. its not worth the fab work to get it all perfect and use an inferior transmission behind such an awesome engine. BUT if you feel you must if you can get a w56 2wd trans with your engine you can make a hybrid with yours that will bolt together.
