Chevy 350 swap header questions
I've started puting a 350 into my 1989 toyota pickup. im almost done but ive ran into a big problem with exhaust. at first i was going to use the stock manifolds but the driver side comes down and hits on my torsion bar. so then i went to buy costume headers made for these swaps on http://www.northwestoffroad.com/parts/engineswap.html but im putting a sm 465 tranny it in and they said that their headers wont clear my bell housing and clutch fork. the stock manifolds would fit if the driver side was the same as the passenger side but they come straight down instead of back. do you guys know if i could find some manifolds like that or if anyone has any other ideas that would be great. ive heard that you can use shorty headers but that involves cutting the frame and im trying to avoid that.

what about the headers from advanced adapters?? or are those about the same as NW? Imma either buy some regular headers or AA's... i'm using a TH350 tho, :-/. Could always go the custom headers route too ;-P
OR, .... what about doing a SAS??? The front end won't handle the power of the 350 for long anyhow(according to what i've asked and been told on here) You mine as well do the SAS while your at it, get it all done in one shot, if the $$$$ is avail.... If you do the SAS, then the torsion bars will magically disappear. :-D |

hah yeah they would, i'd like to do that swap but im pretty much broke right now with christmas and all. i called advance adapters and they said that their headers dump in the same spot as the manifolds that i have now do so they wont work. they said to try and find some manifolds out of an 80's camaro so i might hit up the junk yard this weekend. i put a 3" body lift on it and it wasnt enough. the tranny is about two inches to tall so last night i had to cut out the floor board under part of the dashboard to get it to fit. so now i guess ill get to put some sweet dimond plate in there to try and cover it up

Well, Downey sells Blockhugger headers for the 350 chevy. They are designed specially for Toyota engine swaps.
BTW, I thought the kit says you have to cut the floor boards a little to get the tranny to fit. I'm assuming you got a kit, and you are installing a 700-R4 Transmission.
