advice on $1900 rebuilt 89 22re
Ive never done anything like an engine swap before, but im feeling ambitious enough to do it.
Theres a guy near me with an 89 block bored .020 over and chemically cleaned, and:
- performance header, camshaft, oversized valves (LC eng)
- oem rockers (LC eng)
- ceramic header
- intake/exhaust porting
- new pistons, bearings, oil pump, water pump, alt, seals, gaskets, etc.
Worth it at 1900? Any tips? Im very tempted.
thanks

What is the experience and general reputation of the guy who assembled the engine??
Why did he build it and then not use it himself???
Is the engine truly fresh, and never installed in a vehicle?
Might be worth it if that was the price including installation, and if there was a warantee that you actually might be able to collect on if there are problems.
On the low end of the spectrum, there are rebuilders here in AZ that offer rebuilt 22RE long blocks for as little as $550+ an engine core.
Probably more realistic pricing for a decent rebuilt long block is $850 to $1000

Ok thanks. Yea that was my biggest concern-- 2 months later some gasket fails or something wasnt torqued right.
He has been working on Toyotas a while, but he's "getting out of the business" now. Hes done several rebuilds and swaps.
