Can anyone tell me if the 1989 3.0 is interchangable with 1991? I am new to this forum and there appears to be alot of helpfull knowledge here.

The motors should be the same, but the sensors and plugs on wiring harness will be diferent, so you would need to swap all of the sensors from the old motor onto the new motor.

Thanks for the info, really appreciate it. This is my first toy and should make a great trail rig. I hear these are notorious for blowing head gaskets. Any suggestions?

Are you looking to (or thinking about) putting an '89 3.0 into your '91 ?

yes. The engine currently installed in the 91 was previously ran without oil by the previous onwner. Found a great price for an 89 3.0 just needs a new head gasket.

Look at the 3.4 swap forum if you already have a dead 3.0

Yeah, my motor in my 1994 is out of a 1990, and it passed smog, and inspection..... so, you can draw your own conclusions there.
