do the isuzu 3.9 4bd2t lighter and tachs out a 4k instead o 3k and doesnt clatter like the 4bt, also exhaust will be in same spot. or the cummins 3.3. om617 5 cyl outta merdcedes, or a suped up 1.9 vw or the 140 hp 2.0 vw common rail. 4bts are cool but in a runner too heavy and clatter like hell. i would go isuzu or merc.
if you google it there is alot of good stuff out there. check this out http://www.isuzudieselswapper.com/ |

The reason i was going to do a 4BT was because i got a guy who already has one sittin on the side for me, i just need to come up with the rest of the money, and im either doing that, or I'm gonna do a solid axle swap, i just havent really made up my mind, but around me, solid axles are over rated, so thats what was making me lean more towards the Diesel swap

Chesapeake? as in Maryland?
My bro has a Disco I and he was looking at a 4bt swap until he found the Isuzu engine mentioned above. He hasn't done it yet, still researching and collecting parts. I think the 4BT is really tall also

if you sas it and get the motor low enough you might be good with the height with an oil pan mod. your probably going to have toreplace tranny and tcase too. i would look for a late 80's to 95 ram with a cummins 5speed that was wrecked or rolled and pick it up for a few grand and youll have most of what you need for the swap.

If you haven't already learned about it, the 1KZ-TE engine is amazing and is a choice that was optional in your 4runner overseas basically everywhere but in the USA and Canada. It isn't cheap, but once finished it will be like a factory choice. Parts are someone hard to come by but not impossible by any means. Also if you haven't found this site www.toyotadiesel.com you should check it out! 4bt will rattle so bad your teeth will hurt and the front end will hate you, too, regardless of the SAS in my opinion. I like your truck!

a 3cyl rare cummins beast 3bt that displaces 3.45 liters would be sweet. its half of a 6.7 with a ve pump. can be found in some trac hoes however youll have to get crafty with the pump to make it non industrial.
