22re engine swap complications!
hi everybody. i know im a newbie on this forum but i need your guys help!.
alright well i have a 92 toyota pickup that had a blown 22re in it. i bought a 22re out of an 88 and put it in. now that its in im having a huge idle problem. after driving on the freeway itll idle around 4K rpm. but then once cools it goes from 1800-2000ish then back down to maybe 700 and back up again. my questions are? is this a TPS problem? im using the TPS from the 92 becasue the connectors for the 92 didnt fit the 88 sensor. also im using a 92 ECU . is that a problem since the injectors have diff part numbers? and what MAF/ AFM should i be using? should i be using the one for the 88 or one for a 92? thanks everybody for the help! |

You should have used only the long block from the 88. IE all the sensors, injectors, ecu, harness, etc etc should have come from your 92.
You DID use all the 92 parts, riiight?

i used the harness from the 92. i used the ecu from the 92, distributor, ignitor, alternator etc etc. we did NOT use the injectors because the injectors oh the 92 motor were bad. i didnt use the head from the 92 because it was cracked and warped. i was told when i bought the longblock that the 88 was a "plug and play setup, no modification needed" ya total bs but i guess i ate it up. everything is running great except for the idle. i have great power, great startup, fuel pressure is fine. no leaks or anything.

Long block is pan to valve cover. Everything but the block (with internals) head, valve train, cam, etc needs to be swapped over. This includes intake, sensors, wiring, injectors, brackets that dont match, etc etc.
A short block is the lower rotating assy only (block minus the head). You wouldn't want to use the head from the 92. Get the 92 injectors rebuilt, and put them in.

Deathcougar, thanks for the input. i know what a short and long block is since ive been dealing with old school corollas and have been working on them for the past 6 years. im no master tech but i get by.
do you know if the 92 injectors have a different amount of resistance than the ones from a 88? i dont think those injectors would cause my idling problem though i still think that has to do with a maf sensor and or TPS so im assuming since im using the engine harness from the 92 and im using a 92 computer that i should be using a 92 MAF right? because right now i def am not using one. |
