1984 block with 1985+ head?

I have searched and most say it can`t be done and others say it can with a lot of work.I just tore down the bottom end.I know the deck heights are different and I was planning on rebuilding anyways. Can you not use the 85+ pistons in the 84- block and make it work?

For what it would cost to make the pistons work you can buy new ones cheaper. Just how much would it cost to rebuild the head so it would work with the early pistons.

Then if your rebuilding how can you know if the block needs bored and if so how much??

Then you get into the Franken Engine just what front parts to use as the timing cover , timing chain kit, water pump all those are different.

Sure it can be done but cost effective ??

I am planning on buying a rebuild kit anyways. The timing cover I have fits the block because I checked it.I am assuming that I will have to run the 84 and under timing chain due to the taller deck height.I am mostly concerned with the piston to valve clearance. The newer head I have only has 2500 miles on it so it should be good.
