Great Link Ric! Yeah the fundamentals for wheeling have nothing to do with what you drive - but how you drive...

its alot of reading, but if the newer people read it, they wont have as many questions, or issues on the trail.
I remember when i was new, i asked sooooooooooo many questions, but the group i was wheeling with, was more than willing to answer "all" of my questions, give my pointers, etc.

Awesome site!

I am continually amazed by how many people I come across out here in the desert out "wheeling" without even the most basic necessities. Without jack, spare, water, etc. C'mon, people...you can DIE out here!!!

I wish there was alos a listing somewhere of what it takes to be a good trail leader - I dunno maybe I'll start one. This list really plays into that - in that if you are doing a trail run with a lot of news - it would be good to bring some print outs and hand them out...

What a great site Ric So much information and written well with some little jokes in there. I am forwarding this to my daughter and son in law who just bought their first 4 wheel drive (Xterra) but they are making it rock already. Only had it 2 weeks and have new tires, lift(on it's way), rack, CB, high lift, shovel, D-rings, tow strap. Now with this info I think it will really help them out. And with dad (Doug) and all his gear he keeps IN the truck they can get an idea what other items they need.

Good site.
I just realized something, we do not have a "how to" section here on the basics of 4wheeling, threads on proper winch usage ect...

Maybe I can add a forum under the parent forum here that these are in.
Or do you think that all this stuff will fit into the Land Usage-Responsibility section since learning the fundamentals of proper 4wheeling is being responsible?

most likely it would be in land use, but the fundamentals really just point out to how you defeat the terrain you are on so its a little different to land use.

Ric, good find, very helpful for newbs such as me, gives me a better understanding as ive only been out 4 times.

darci,
tell your daughter and son-in-law, they are welcome to wheel with me "anytime" they always have an open invitation between you and Doug, they got some great examples to follow.

Thread moved.
If anyone can think of a "catchier" title for the section, post up.

Excuse me...I have a new thread I have been thinking about today, and will put it up in there soon.

Great Link

I am a "newbie" because I just got a '00 4runner and have not yet been offroad with it....

Yotatech definitely needs to devote more space to new builds.

Thanks for the link. I've done a lil wheelin at my local stone quary, but by myself(with my boy in the rig.) Always exercised respect for the trail and rig. This link and the thread on YT about gear carried on outings is superb. And just a big thanks to ALL on YT, my 3.slo could not gain speed on the highway when I first got it, now it runs like a champ ( for a 3.0). Gotta get quick connects for my sway bar, a new double cardan joint, tie rods and a idler arm, then I'm ready to get my backup supplies to start my long learning wheelin adventures. Also YT hooked me up with some fellow Hoosiers(ppl from Inidana) so we can all go home saftly after wheelin. I LOVE THIS SITE.
