Jumping on vehicles to help with balance while offroad

There was a thread posted here awhile back with some guy's jumping on the back of a trucks bumper, and many said it was OK, some said not OK.

Take it from the master of off roading, Bill Burke.

Bill has more off road knowledge than anyone on this planet.
Quote:
"There are very few people with Bill's knowledge of how to drive an off-road trail." Dave Zartman, Editor, 4WD Toyota Owner.

This thread brought to you as a public safety message while offroading.

Interesting read. One thing though, what the hell is up with this choice of words from the article??

He is very passionate about safety, and seeing someone do something stupid like that gets his dander up.

yeah, I don't see this as being smart either. Guys say no to 102' whips because spotter might get stuck in the eye. It seems to me, there should be a zone around all moving vehicles that are a "no go zone". I drive an 18 wheeler and running over someone on the fuel island is a concern. Plus my wife ran over my dog last year in the driveway soooo give rigs a wide pass is right thinking for a long and healthy life

Bill Burke is God, we better do everything that he says.

I prefer Kenny Rogers on this one...

"You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold them..."

Its good advice even tho its a reaction to wanna jump on a rig in a sketchy situation. I feel like a strap on a stinger or rollbar or even back bumper does so much more. Throw 3 guys on a strap or even 2 and they can do more then some random guy running and jumping on a bumper.

I agree.
A life is worth more than sheet metal or a tricked out rig any day.

I think it is a natural reaction to want to jump.
Kind of like when you are in a vehicle as a driver or a passenger, and you get tippy on a trail and come close to a tree.

Whadaya do?
You put your hand and out try to push yourself away from the tree

It ain't gonna happen, no matter how hard you push, but it is a natural reaction to do so.
