How do you Store your tools ( 1st gen 4runner )

So my rig is going to be a weekend wheeler/camping/expedition style vehicle. Right now i just have a little 2 drawer craftsman toolbox that i throw in the back. well well i camp i lay down the back seats and it becomes a pain to move around the cold metal toolbox. I was wondering if anyone has made/bought/found a tool storage box or something on the outside of the cab or inside that works well, doesn't get in the way, mounts outside ( waterproof)? I cant find anything! Thanks!!! Y4r86!

I'll add what ever you put on the inside, strap it down! You could get in a wreck, roll while wheeling, etc. No fun to be taken out by your own toolbox…

I strap down all my junk in the back.

You can build a toolbox I guess. Strap it to the roof? I've seen guys convert jerry guys into tool boxes.

I plan to use inside quarter panels as storage compartments. Make more openings than the stock door. This way the tools do not occupy much-needed space in the rear deck, and they're out of sight; An exposed toolbox may tempt thieves to break in. Even if you have inexpensive tools, you'd have to deal with broken windows.

Debating whether to put little drawers / shelves in there or simply stuff pouches of tools in there. Pouches organized by type. i.e., ratchets & sockets, screw drivers, combination wrenches, spares...

I've been thinking along these same lines. Making a longer bigger storage compartment. I have also been thinking about adding one in the front bumper when I build a plate bumper. But that's later on down the road
