Post up a picture. Host it on photobucket.com or imageshack.us if it is the original axle, and it is a solid axle, it is a toyota 8 inch. If it's independent front suspension, it's 7.5 inch. Post up the year of the truck to get more help also. If it's not the stock axle and it had a solid axle swap, my guess would be a Dana 44 most likely from a Jeep Wagoneer. Post up pics for better info. Also, no Toyota's came with 3.73 gears.

That's the stock 85 axle. It should have 4.11 or 4.10 gears as well.

it looks like a 81-83 SFA out of a toyota the bottom truss stops before the u-joints. as far as the gearing goes I have a 3.80 8" member in my garage a lot of stuff get swapped around sometimes thats not suppose to be there.
Its possible the PO bent and broke his and threw in a MUTT of parts to get back on the road or get it put back together to sell it off to you., Order gears for 8" toyota 3rds |

That is a dropped drag link (for steering). Also looks to have a flipped ball on the steering j-arm.

yeah i knw what you mean....it does have diffrent gears in the back than the front thought...i done the driveshaft test and the back driveshaft turned just alil over 2 turns for the tire to make a one complete rotation..and the front was almost 3 turns....the truck has a 350 with a few goodys im thinking 4.88's front and back would be good...or maybe just keep the back gears and do 4.11s all the way around

IMO it sounds like the steering box is faulty possible blown seal you shoudl be able to find a good used replacement for $20 -$50 if you like to wheel this beast i would consider a high steer mod, you will only find trouble with that old dinosuar steering setup |

find a used replacement box then, thats the easiest way IMO! trying to figure out how to take that thing apart is a PITA, if you take it apart and the ball bearings fall out everywhere well should be able to find one for cheap wrecking yard or CL maybe even e-bay Soak it down with PB blaster its gonna be a fun |
