Ragin's SAS

I won't start the cutting and welding until Friday(13 Mar), but I figured that I would start my thread. I picked my the axel about a month ago and I have been tinkering around with it here and there. I know that I did somethings backwards, but hell this is my 1st one. If I put a little more tought into I would have waitied to prime it, but I was also thinking that I wanted bare metal out of the moist air.
Well here is it, the beast, it was in rough shape, but it is going to be a fun project.*** Thanks Mike (904runner ) for the help breaking it down.

What you can't see is in next the carport over, Mike is there messing around with his sliders. He got one ready to be mounted that day.
Cuting off the brackets with a plasma cutter that I borrowed from my work.

The next time, I welded on the top and ball gussets and I know my welds aren't pretty but they will hold up..
slow is fast...lol.. you can see where I stopped and started again.

In the trail gear ball gusset kit it came with little triangle dammits for the bump stops. The pic isn't the best but you will get an idea of where they go.

I have the top ball gusset with the shock mount, but I want to wait until I get the axel under the truck before I weld them on. As you can see the stock ones are still there.
After the mistake of priming it a little early

I pick up the 3rd member from being regeared, put the aussie in it. I have welded on the protection plate and installed the axels. Of course i had some help packing the knuckles. Teaching her young!

This it how it sits tonight, I will finish it tomorrow.

Living in base housing I very limited space and I have to do everything outside in a carport. Very little space..

more to come tomorrow...

I don't know I have worked on mostly on saturdays and just for a couple of hours. Trying to still spend some time with the family. Next weekend will be the hours upon hours of work. Mike helped me break it down to just the shell, so putting it back together took a little time, never done one of these before and I really wasn't in a rush. So to answer your question probely about 2 1/2 full days from start to finsih.. just a guess though.

Looks good. Are you going to run longfields or stock birfields?

Some guys can run the stock birfields for a long time, I broke both sides turning the truck around in the drive way. Good luck. The SAS was the best mod I did. The longs the second. Nice start to your build.

RaginYota - Don't forget to weld the spring pad on the drivers side spring perch or your truck will end up sitting un-even other then that your front axle looks good. Keep the pics coming!

I know exactly how it feels to do all the work yourself I think it makes you feel better about it when your all done.

Thanks, and I am waiting to weld it with the 220 welder on Friday. The 120 might be good enough but having it done with the 220 will give me the warm and fuzzy feeling.

Ragin - No problem I always wanted an extra cab but I opted for the 4cyl 4runner instead for the family room. If you were closer I'd come down and let you use my welder to burn that bad boy in.

Keep the pics coming

904 - If you're using TG springs I'd send them pics of your setup I remember a few months ago some guys were complaining about their rigs sitting uneven and TG told them to remove the springs and measure eye to eye. I'm not sure if they got new springs out of the deal or not but it's worth a shot

Well started early this morning and 12 hours later the IFS it out, and the front spring support is tacked in place. Tomorrow it should be done and we will start on the rear.

Here is this morning at 5 am

gotta love the rear springs.

last time the IFS crap was in the truck

Look what fell off

The easy part is done now for the time consuming part of removing the rest of the brackets.

Well everything is cleaned up and my friend Zack, worked his magic with the welder

and how it sits until tomorrow morning.

More to come tomorrow when I get home
