Plan for sasing the runner.

How does this plan sound to you for sas'ing a third gen runner?

Running Gear:
fj80 elocked front axle with 5.29's
Swap over to a gear driven tcase with 4.7 gears
Modified links in the rear with fj80 coils

My plan would be to use the stock radius arm set up off of an fj80, with using coils and shocks., and using an jf80 or fj60 steering box. Get some new coil buckets from toyota and some link brackets for the frame for the radius arms.

This has been done before on an fj40, the sema taco this year did this too.
http://www.wowway.com/~rballard2820/...ingwriteup.htm

I really don't like the ideas of leafs and wanted to keep it simple and run coils front and rear. Figured all I would have to do is basically replicate the dimensions on the fj80 frame and mounting points and then do some tests to gain how i should limit the axle and what springs i should use in it.

How does this sound to you guys?

sounds like fun... are you going to be lifting it any or just stick with the two inches the rear coils will give

It all depends on how it sits with different springs in the front, but basically I would lifting the rear a couple inches. Probably at first I'll run 33's, then move up to 35-37's. I'll tub the firewall and rear to fit the bigger tires with running the least amount of lift.

I am just in the planning stages now, just trying to find out if I have missed anything.

For the tcase I can either run my w59 and an adapter or run a w56 and don't have to deal with the adapter.

List of things so far:
FJ80 axle, radius arms, upper coils buckets, steering box, (panhard and steering I will fabricate)
Frame reinforcement plates
radius arm and panhard brackets
w59 to gear driven tcase adapter
26 spline to 23or21 spline adapter
topshift 4.7 case
twinstick
tcase crossmember and skid and other assorted skids
steering lines
5.29's front and rear
brake line parts
square front d-shaft
assorted plating and steel to beef up components

Down the road:
tub the firewall
35-37's
dual cases

Have you thought about airshocks for the front? They are relatively inexpensive and very tunable. It would provide more space for gusseting and linking options...

I think i'd be too heavy for airshocks and overheat them.

I am not really worried about gusseting the front axle, and with the radius arm set up i dont have to really worry about room because I just have the radius arms and the panhard that come off of the axle.

I will let you know how mine turns out. I had to consider space in my decision to run airshocks (fox 2.0) because I'm running an 8".

I'd be selling my whole front set up, arb 4.88's, manual hub set up, budbuilt.

But thats when I start chopping which probably won't be until 2010-2011. Just in the planning process now, and gonna start collecting parts this summer. Then I have to move out of my apartment and move into a house with a garage so I can work on it after work, etc.

you should go ahead and start chopping now , sos i can buy your front set up and put it on mine then ill be double locked and ready to rock. and i also wouldnt have to pull the third to get new gears put in. it would already be done, eh oh well.
