Might trade my Tacoma for this SAS 4runner

Hey guys,

I got an offer for my 1999 Tacoma Extended Cab 4x4.

He has a 1995 4Runner SAS with 83 toyota axle,4.88 gears,SmittyBilt bumpers and rock sliders, a Warn winch,33's on it now, and it has 172k.

The thing is, it has room too clear 37's and all I really want for now are 33's.So how much money would it be to take about 5" of lift off of this badboy, and make it a bit more streetable for now?

Anyway here are some pictures of the rig,

I drove it and it handled well, but It seemed slow compared to my Tacoma.

Well it appears to have a body lift on it so that would be easiest to take off, that'd take off probably around 2 inches depending on how big the body lift is. To take that much lift off though, you'd have to get new springs, new shocks, most likely the driveshafts would be too long, and your shackle angles may be off depending on how long they are etc. I personally would not take anything but the body lift off as it appears to be set up pretty well (the pictures are not very good to tell that from, but the height looks about right for 37's. If you're just gunna use it for dd'ing, keep your Tacoma, that's way more practical fro dd'ing. But that's just my opinion.

One more thing I noticed, the person did not swap in leaf springs to the rear, it appears to be on the stock 4 link which sucks in comparison to a leaf swapped 4runner. Your truck is most likely worth alot more than this 4runner.

1999 Toyota Tacoma Extra Cab 4x4 2.7L Automatic, SR5 with 170k runs perfect, and still pretty much bone stock.

I agree. If you just want a daily driver keep the taco...

On the other hand... it is a nice looking beefy runner... do what makes you happy.

I don't want just a DD,

I want to be able to wheel with the boys but still drive it to work and school, so 33's would be fine for now.

Its a nice taco, just not what im really looking for.

Honestly though, i would seriously trade for an equally built pickup or possibly a somewhat built Tacoma. I don't know, i just don't care for the 4runner too much anymore. Wish i would have started with a truck.

But if you do like that 4runner.

Putting rear leafs under it isn't that hard, if you have some fabrication skills.

The only downside to buying a built rig, is you don't know the kind of workmanship the previous owner put into it, or what he cut corners on. That most likely has a 3.0L v6, which arn't the greatest motors. Not to mention if you want to go dual cases later its going to cost you some additional bucks compaired to the 22re guys.. Now if that 4runner does have a 22re, then it might be worth it. I still don't think it would be a compairable straight up trade though. Arn't Tacoma's blue book values quite a bit more?

I worked in a Fabrication shop for 6 months and I live on a ranch for 2 years where I had to learn to work on just about everything.

I just think that 4runner is a little too built for me.

See thats cool, if you have good fab skills then you could possibly trade for a better tacoma (5-speed, e locker) and build that up.

I take joy in building the rig, so i think that is one of the problems for me all the stuff i want to do now, is going to cost the big bucks(transfercase upgrades, axle upgrades) so i need to save up. lol Its an expensive hobby, i started out only wanting 33's and look, now37"s look too small for me... it just depends how involved you get with it.
