85 rough ride #HELP#

I got an 85 toy p/u with a 4" lift and 33/12.50. Just bought the truck. It has a solid front axle. The ride from this truck is unbearably rough. It beats you to death trust driving on the highway. Also, if you break hard, it cranks to the right very bad. Can anyone offer up some suggestions to this new Toy 4x4 owner to get a softer ride? Thanks.

Its a 24 year old sfa truck...what do you expect?
Is the suspension bottoming out?
Get new shocks.
If you want a softer ride, get IFS

You could be out of alignment...that could be why it pulls to the right. or the "BRAKES" (not breaks ) could be bad. one might not be fully engaging.

Also, why did you put this in the SAS section?...'85s came stock with SFA......

I know. It just seems a lot rougher than it should be. It doesn't out. I am thinking of removing the lift. It's that bad. Maybe i will try a 2 inch or something. I was just wondering if anyone else had this issue and could offer up suggestions. Thx.

Has the torque rod been removed from the front axle? If so, that is the likely cause of the pull while braking.

And you can do a little detective work to see what is the primary cause of the rough ride:

Torque Rod is the problem

Thanks you very much. Sure enough, the torque rod is missing altogether. Do you know where I can get one? I believe I need I need to get a netter drag link also. It looks pretty stressed at that height.

add your location to your profile: you never know someone might have one close to you.

I would also inspect your other front end components: wheel bearings, brakes, bushings, TRE's etc...I recently totally rebuilt my front end...it is night and day difference from when I first got my truck.

You can get a dropped drag link on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Pro-C...Q5fAccessories

springs: I wonder if your truck has NorthWest off road springs?? Those things are notoriously rough, especially their heavy duty springs...JC whitney replacement springs have an ok reputation. OME is great...

I've heard complaints about stock size lift springs as stock size limits the options manufactures can use to gain height. What's intended use?
