newbe here and excited!!!

Hi everyone. Since I can remember ive wanted a 4x4 and finally im getting my first one and after a long drawn out search i came up with a 2nd gen 4runner. im one week away from buying her..
shes got brand new paint, 5 speed, 3.0, and a sunroof.
is 2,300 to much? its going to need tires and the front left suspension rattles like crazy over bumps. the heads look brand new and the power is alot more compared to all the automatics ive tried.

wow that was fast!! well the mileage is about 213k but the motor sounds healthy. as far as mods im thinking slightly over sized tires and a rear locker <-(not sure which would suit me and my driving) , rims from a third gen, tints, nice stereo thats it so far.
most of that stuff is more of a wish list..

looks good. I'd ask when the headgaskets were done and the timing chain. if they were done recently $2300 is a pretty good deal if its rust free and clean title.

thats a good bit of miles but the truck looks great. but like 4gen5thtime said. if the HG is good and timing belt is good. then you got yourself a helava deal

quite a bit of miles for a 3.0. hows the Head gasket and whens the timing belt been done? I bought my 92 4runner about 2 years ago for 4,500 with 107k miles. 2,300 is a pretty good deal for rust free and clean title

most of that stuff is more of a wish list..

well tell us about your driving and budget. are you looking a/t or m/t?
mine is driven off road and to and from wheeling spots with an aussie locker. but i think you can only get a lockright. there are also detroits and spools.

or and ARB or e-locker may be what you want (selectable). but those are on the higher $$$ scale.

the aussie and the lockright are so much alike i hear that i think you would be comfortable with one of those in a DD. i haven't had any problem out of mine. i still enjoy driving on the road with it too. as long as the clunking in the rear doesn't bother you i think you'd be fine.

but all in all, welcome to YT.

Seems a little high to me. Especially for a 3.0 my guess is that the engine has max 40K miles before something happens. I have found many better deals. Got mine for $700. And I have seen quite a few for about $1500.

very true, you may want to try going lower on the price, unless you've already committed to that. don't let these big boys scare you away from a 3.slow. true they aren't toyota cream of the crop, but i've seen 3.0's go just as many miles as 22re's and anything else. just make sure you take care of it.

gears will be very important depending on your tire size. thanks fatty, i forgot about that. but i run 33x12.50's on stock 4.10's. so its really just if you can put up with bogging down going up hills haha

i cant seem to find anything under 2k thats worth it most runners i find under that are tore up bad nasty interior seats are fubar. and you would have to buy every bushing in it new. and 5 speed even less.. it would be my weekend warrior i have a company vehicle so i would use it to go see my mom in tampa and my dads place in sebring fla. locally some mild trail riding / mudding. i will be pulling my 4 wheeler to go camping. i have about 1k to spend on any repairs it needs tires and such. i like it cause of the fresh paint and the interior is nice and the ac blows serious cold very important here in miami fla. and i really didnt want a project truck just something i can tinker with and still drive around without my girl covering her face so people dont see her in it.

if i was him i would go with some 32/11.50s and no lift to be safe. The 4:10 will work fine escpecially with no lift and 150hp.

Are you mechanicly inclined? If so I'd offer him 1800 cash(bring cash with you) and go from there. If you have around 1000 and are pretty good around motors or know a friend or family member who will help you for cheap replace both headgaskets and the timing belt when you get it. 3.0's are great motors they just are prone to hg failer and with the miles who knows. You can always pressure wash, steam clean, and paint parts on a motor to make them look new and thats what car dealers do to make a pos look like 1millon bucks. Either way good luck with it.

hehe, id pay 2300 for it. i paid 2k for an 87 with a "recently rebuilt engine" that blew after 3 days of me owning it, tires that went flat after a month, and broken auto hubs. sure, it now has a new 22re, new rims and bfg ats, and manual aisin hubs... but it got screeeeeeeeeewed. get it checked out then buy it.

well it has man hubs. i know it needs tires they are on the way out. and the heads look new. its not going to be a dd. so ill have some time to look it over next weekend. to make sure i dont break anything it needs. an dthe drive home is about 60 miles. ill let you know if i kill it. everyone here makes the 3.0 seem like walking on glass. whats the percentage of people with pos 3.0's and good 3.0's. or are they all pos's? is it that bad?

The 3.0 isnt that bad just feels like you have 3 cylinders. but i think you will be happy with your 4runner!

They are not bad. They have the fuel milage of a v8 and the power of a 4cly you will have to get used to that. They can and will go the distance of a toyota though. Just make sure you pay attention to the head gaskets. I'm not bashing the 3.0 I'm just stating a fact. If it wasnt a problem toyota would have never called for the head gasket campaign on the 3.0s now would they?
