New here, need advice
Hi - I'm new here and I have been wanting to buy t 4runner for a few years now. I work on alot of cars, and the 4runners and toyota 4x4's I see are usually in very good shape for their age. I had an 84 ram charger, but parts could be a challenge to find, so I thought I would get some input straight from the horse's mouth on what to look for or what to buy -Thanks!!

Welcome and I would recommend searching what you like! Lifts, do you wheel? DD, trial occasionally, ect the list will never end.
The search for what your after is in your hands and at the top of the screen! Enjoy ![]() ![]()

Thanks! I have been looking at everything, but I just wanted some experienced recommendations. I like to wheel, but have always been in a RamCharger, but now I have a family and I feel that I need something more reliable, to take the family out in without having to trailer a rig to and from a trail.

It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish as what you should buy. Think it out real well as to what your trying to get to a rock crawler , daily driver/mall crawler trail only truck there are many options out there you just have to decide what your trying to do.
That said any generation 4runner will be very cool its all about the motor you chose. Thee 22 series is a great motor can do so much with it the 3.0 is a gas hog not much out there for it in after market upgrades that are worth the money you put into it but it is a good dependable motor I have 240,xxx and counting but get terrible MPG 12-14 it is under powered and go 5 speed auto's are a complete dog if you go 3.0. The 3.4 is the better motor of the 3 lots of upgrades and almost endless power mods that really make a difference plus if you like the earlier models you can put a 3.4 into one and have the best of both worlds.

22re, 2.7, 3.4's, 4.0's and 4.7 Definetly no 3.0 and if you really have money 5.7 tundra. Sounds like a nice 3rd gen 4runner would do your family all the good! for wheelin it can do mild stock, but can be turned to wild real quick ![]() My only recommendation against the entire toyota company is there 3.0 rigs stay away from that and youll be good. Good luck in a purchase and once you get it get some pics up

Like they said, depending on what you want. i think most of the toyotas, as long as they are 4x4, will do the job even when being stock if you want an off road adventure.
If its only for daily driver-family car I would try to get a 4 door Tacoma or a 4runner. they are reliable, cheap in accesories, low cost maintenance... I dont know, I just like toyotas a lot so I only see the good points of view on these cars. Thers not a single angle of the 96-02 4runner or 96-02 tacoma that i dont like.. |
