Hey, what's up.
Hello everyone, my name is Steve and I have been doing the toyota thing my whole driving life (17 years). Learned to drive with my dad's 85 2wd, drove that for a few years, went to college, bought my first new toy in '95 - did the lowrider thing with that, started snowmobiling - bought a new 2000 Taco to tow the sled (4wd, fabtech lift, kind of a mall crawler I suppose), sold that to put money down on our first house, then five years ago I scored an 87 toyota with 47K for $2200. Minty fresh truck, the po keep it clean and in the garage all the time. Fast forward a few years and the box started coming apart, but the cab and frame were still rust free because I washed it all the damn time (heated shop with floor drain makes washing your truck in WI. winters not a completely horrible experience.) My brother got into building up toyotas a couple of years ago (1983 reg cab 113" wb, dual Marlin t-case and h.d. L52 tranny, exo, lockers, etc.), and I got sick of helping him build his truck so... off came my rusty bed, fixed up the back half of the frame, repainted back half of frame, SAS with T.G. product, Inchworm 5.1 single case, aussie lockers f/r, pretty cool tube bed and bent up a nice front tube bumper and sliders, and it has 35" mtz's. I started this project last summer and have met cool people to go on wheeling trips with.
In WI. we do have some pretty cool spots to go wheeling/camping but mostly we go to McCaslin Mt. Campground. It has a fair amount of rock toclimb and alot of tight trails. Since the trails basically go up and around the mountain, there are alot of washed out, rock exposed climbs. We can usually do all of the obstacles within one day assuming nobody breaks to seriously. We try to go at least every month, lately every other month, and winter wheeling trips are fair game till Feb. They close down for a few months and open when the snow melts and it dries out a bit. I enjoy welding, bending tube, and helping my wheeling buddies keep there domestic crap running. I am the only one who drives a toyota and drives my truck to the trails. They all have tow rigs to get there wrecks home when they break. I try to build smart so I can enjoy this hobby of mine. Thats about it, I started a thread in the 89-95 toy section titled tube bed, tailgate pics( something like that) you can check it there if you would like to see my truck. |
