Hello, from Joe

You may know 92 TOY, well, I'm his son. I have a 1988 4runner ( see signature ). We got the truck in April of this year off of Craigslist. When we got it, the fenders were rusted. The seller had put in a new fuel pump and brand new Bridgestone dueler radials. Sadly, the truck had a blown headgasket. When we first parked it, we took the top off to let it air out because it STUNK. 92 TOY and I have been rebuilding his 22re in his 1992 pickup, so we haven't gotten to my work on the ENGINE of my truck. We took out all of the seats and rear body panels within the first month. We did lots of rust repair on the fenders. We painted the roll bar and the bed with the best thing this side of the Mississippi.........

DUPLICOLOR PROFESSIONAL UNDERCOATING!!!

It leaves a nice texture when finished and is virtually bulletproof. Thanks to YOTATECH, we have gotten lots of part info and methods for fixing things.

( sigh )

Here come the pics...

( SIGH ).....done.

From the old man...so I can keep an eye on you.LOL

Just wanted to say, my son(s) are total TOYOTA nuts.....a little over a year ago we we aspiring to buy a muscle car...fix it up etc etc etc.......but then it came to be that we shuld maybe sink some money into my truck .............well anyway all these things were just ideas, but since I already had MY truck it was a much less EXPENSIVE idea....when we saw his 4runner on-line, we jumped on it.....overall it's in very good condition.......cosmetically it's almost restored......mechanically, probably needs new head gaskets....definitely valve cover gaskets.

I will make sure he posts some chronological pics..........

Thanks, btw I will be making a rebuild thread, it's just with school and my dad's work schedule it kinda makes it hard. I'm only 13... but for the most part I know what I'm doing. I will be posting pics soon enough.

Welcome Joe, I know what it's like; I took the muscle car route when I was your age but seem to keep coming back to Toyota's.

Look forward to seeing you and your pops around here

Well, I plan to keep it as a daily driver/ sunny day driver/ show truck. I do have plans to get a lift, but WAAAAAAAAAAAY in the future. Besides a K&N air filter, I don't have any other ideas for mods....but only time will tell.........

Welcome to the family Joe... except for that little bit of fender rust she looks very cherry...
You can get the fenders from an aftermarket supplier at very affordable prices check with your local bodyshop supplier the quality is generally quite good...
Only other mod I can see that you need for now is a stereo... you gotta have tunes y'know lol...
You might be able to get the headgasket covered under the old recall contact Toyota USA with the VIN, register yourself with them as the current owner and they will be able to advise you on any outstanding recalls.

The pic with the rust was b4 we did the repairs. We grinded all of the fenders down, bondoed them, enameled them, and undercoated them. We have all of the fenders done except the front right because we don't have a new antenna. Yeah, we have speakers all wired up, but no radio. I'll look into the recalls, thanks
