'Guess I should probably introduce myself..
My name is Brett and I have an addiction, albeit a good one. I dont need drugs or alcohol; just give me 4lo and let me grab some gears.
I'm 20 years old and am about to graduate college with an Associate's Degree in automotive engineering. I love wrenching but am slowly finding out that after doing it for only 4 years that I do not wish to continue this as a profession. I've got a '90 Toyota single cab, which was my first Toyota. I bought it for $200 and did a little work to it. Yes, still IFS. I have almost enough money for the Allpro SAS kit, but whenever I end up getting enough money a great deal comes up on something else. Right now the truck is stock, with the exception of a welded rear, flatbed that I built and am not completely finished with, 15 gallon fuel cell w/ a Ford E2000 fuel pump, and 33" BFG MT's with a little fender trimming. It is a fun little truck that gets me where I want to go. May not be the most hardcore thing in the world, but I've got some parts out back (36" TSLs and a couple solid axles w/ Detroits & 4.56 gears) that should make it a little better. Once the build starts I plan on starting a thread, but for now here are a few pictures. ![]() ![]() I've also got an '87 standard cab that I picked up a year or so ago for $400 that was supposed to be a parts only truck. It had a solid body w/ a fiberglass box, but the frame was very iffy on the passenger side behind the cab and the engine needed some work. I had a head machined and shaved and along with an RV cam the engine came back to life. I drove it this way up until this past 4th of July weekend. The spring hanger had completely ripped off the frame due to rust, and the rest of the frame was about to break in half. Luckily I found a friend had a rust free frame (and 86 SR5 fuel injected cab, too) and I picked that up. With a little help from friends I was able to swap the good body and drivetrain over into the good frame. The engine on this one (22R) is getting tired so over the winter I built a new one. I did all of the machine work myself and was able to save a lot of money. I bored it .030" over stock with Keith Black pistons and decked the block. I had the crank ground and reconditioned the rods and installed new bearings throughout. For now it sits in my garage without a head, as the head that I shaved and have the cam in will be going on this block shortly. Before this gets too long, here are a few pics. Then.. Recently.. ![]() ![]() I guess that is pretty much all there is to say. I have done a little work to these trucks, mostly engine work (as my buddy always likes to blow his 22R series engines up) so I will try to help whenever possible. Thanks for the site! -Brett Last edited by yotAddiction : 08-09-2008 at 12:21 AM. |

Thanks for the welcome! Here are a few pictures of the engine building process. I learned quite a bit about running a CNC machine during this.

Nice intro, Brett. That kind of work fascinates me and I'd like to be able to get my hands on it some day, but yeah....not as a profession. Lol!
Last pic is classic! That's a Toyota.... ![]()
