Exclamation Another new member.

Hello everyone!
I am new to the YotaTech forums and would like to take a moment to introduce myself.

My name is Jordan Parker I am 22 and live in Oregon. I am looking to get into off roading.

I fell in love with Toyotas when I was a younger my older brother and his friends had always owned them.

I have been saving up for a few months and am in the market now and have decided I want an 82-89 standard cab with the good old reliable 22r.

I recently saw a video of a 82 Toyota Hilux Mk1 on you tube doing some off roading and I would really like to see if I can find one like it for sale on the net.

I would prefer to find one that needs some work and build it into a nice 4x4 myself instead of buying it already built so that I can gain some knowledge of how to build them and be able to repair it myself if something does happen to break.

Here is the link to that awesome MK1 on you tube.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LzM1P02zII&NR=1

Does anyone have an advice on the Hilux MK1?

That’s about it for now I will add some pictures after I find my Yota.

JP

Welcome to YotaTech! You found the best site on the www for Toyota truck enthusiasts.

As far as info on the Hilux Mk1, I can't help you.
Hilux is a name Toyota used in certain countries, but not in America. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong about that, but here in America we pretty much refer to anything before the Tacomas as a "pickup".

If you want my advice, I would go with 2nd or 3rd generation pickup with the 22re. That is the fuel injected 4 cylinder. Stay away from the 3.0 V6 engine[3.slo]. If you get a pickup made after 1985, it will likely have independant front suspension[IFS], which is fine for a beginner 4 wheeler. Later you can swap a solid axle[SAS] into it and get really serious about wheeling.

I think the import laws for you guys is 25 years? that will allow you a 83 or 84 hilux. These trucks can be imported and this is my future plan. If you have the patience, get the diesel, it WILL NOT DISSAPOINT.
outbackimports.ca is a canadian site but have a look, there are some sweet rigs.

Hilux is just what toyota called the pick-up in all markets except NA.
any pre 95.5 (Tacoma model introduction) is a Hilux. [basically]
There were some differences in option packages and cloth/trim but these were generally very minor [other then the diesel engine option that is].
Rather then trying to import one [unless you have you heart set on a diesel] you'd be better off buying an NA spec model and picking up the hilux badging package off e-bay or craiglist.

and welcome to the family too.

That thing has like 15 inches of lift. Way to much for practical purposes IMHO. If I was you I would try to buy a pickup in as near to stock condition as I could find. Buying someone elses nightmare is not a lot of fun. You just don't have any way of knowing if things were done right when the PO did the mods.
