Another Canadian on board here.

Hey all,

My name is Derek, I'm from Winnipeg, Manitoba. I've always been a huge fan of Toyota trucks since my Dad bought a 1990 4runner about 8 years ago. But, like every Toyota, it appeared to be slowly rusting away to nothing. My dad finally gave up on it, so he passed it down to me after he purchased a 1996 4Runner limited. I still have tons of hope for the truck although it would be what most people consider a "parts truck". At any rate, I'm actually in love with my 1990. It was the first car/truck I ever drove in my life, and it's taught me quite a few things. Since I've been in ownership of it, I've replaced the clutch, redid all the front brakes, and miraculously, got my rear window working. In the meanwhile, I also picked up a 1985 Pickup SR5 to work on. And, since I'm quite confident everyone likes pictures around here, I'll show some.

My 1990 4runner with 177,000 km on it. 4 cylinder, 5 speed:

Those pictures was taken about two years ago. Let's just say 2 winters on top of the rust that was formed already didn't help it at all.

Recently, I've taken the running boards off, and cut out the rust on the quarter panels, welded new metal in, and then spread some bondo over it to smooth it all out. Here's the pasty white kid(me) working on it:

Here's my 1985 Pickup Xtracab, SR5, which I bought for 500 bucks with a motor that snapped the timing chain.(I'm gonna put it back together and see if I can get it running, if not, I'll pick up a motor from the local PNP):

Oh yeah, it's got 35's on it.

And last, but certainly not least, my Dad's 1996, with 82,000 original km's on it.(works out to about 51,000 miles if my math is right):

And since I'm rambling, here's a picture of my buddy/ next door neighbours 1987 Pickup Turbo-diesel/5 speed:

God I love Toyotas,

Derek.

Edit: Also, I just thought I would mention that my 1990 4runner pulled the 1985 pickup 31 kilometers without even breaking a sweat, when I bought it.

Any comments, negative or positive are greatly appreciated as well.

WELCOME!

Now Z-cars are for girls...unless it's a pic of the Z with a chick then it's ok

It's nice to see someone put lots of MONEY and hard work into an old runner. keep up the good work and try to talk daddy out of the Limited..

Well, this particular Z car is having a small block Chevy and a 5 speed put into it right now, so I'd say it's quite "manly."

But yeah, I'm having tons of fun with all these old Toyotas now. They are so mechanically simple, it's great.

Not to bad

The old ones are great to learn with. I just rebuilt a 92 with the 3.0 and there is tons of crap running all over.

It does have it. I've been convincing him to let me swap it with him, he won't even let me drive his new one though, let alone steal parts off of it. Lol.

I'm kidding, I don't even have a sister. I would post pictures of the girlfriend, but I'm sure she would object to the idea, and she always has ways of finding these things out.

Me? Well-spoken? Nah. So far I'm loving it here, learning a bunch of new stuff (always good), and it's helped me plan some mods for the future.

And the 35" tires on the 4Runner was mainly done as a joke, no way I could actually daily drive the grossly underpowered 4Runner with tires like that on it. The 85 has been making slow progress, but due to an absence of a garage, it's going to have to wait until the temperature at least rises above 0. Cold sucks.

Your 85 is awesome! As for the 4Runner, looks like the first time those 35s rub, the fender will crumble away.

They rub even just on full lock, with no compression, I'm going to have to get the sledgehammer and grinder out if I want them to fit.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

After a huge scare involving my insurance company, and them wanting to write off my truck, I'm back once again. Just a minor upgrade this time however, I decided the 31's on it were looking a bit too small for my liking. The only logical thing I could think to do was to get the sledgehammer and grinder out to fit the biggest tires I could under the stock suspension and body mounts. After several hours with a 10 lb sledgehammer, several grinding discs and a couple buddies, the 35's fit nicely inside. Here's some pictures of the 35's on it:

Then, during all my fun and games, my passenger side front axle decided to grenade itself. Better add a couple more things to "my list of things to do/fix."

-P/S axle.
-Rear u-joints
-All four shocks.
-P/S front corner light.
-Somehow create a spare tire holder than can support a 35" BFG M/T.
-Somewhere to hold my Hi-lift jack.
-More recovery points. I only have one up front, and two out back, it's kind of a nuisance.
