About Time...

Hey guys, after strolling through this website for about a year I finally registered. I have a silver 88 4runner with the 22re 5spd 183k. This is my first yota and first 4x4...it's becoming an addiction. A bit of history on the runner: I've had her for a year and a half, immediately removed the running boards, put some OME springs in the rear to eliminate the infamous saggy butt, torqued up the torsion bars to level off (hopefully someday to be replaced with BJ spacers and heavier torsion bars), put on 31"'s, welded on a complete home-job front bumper, and put in a pioneer head unit and speakers all around. To top it all off I finally figured out how to fix the rear window-it now works with a toggle switch in the cab and with the key!

My plan is to create a worthy expedition vehicle as well as to crawl. Mud just doesn't do it for me.

Right now I'm looking for some 4.88 gears. I've been thinking about just swapping in some diff's from a v6 auto. That will work, right? After that either an Aussie or Detroit (selectable just isn't in my budget). My wallet prefers aussie, but if I do the v6 auto diff swap I'll be forced to go Detroit. From there, sliders and bumpers, Marlin 4.7 gears, and suspension. How does that sound? Any suggestions?

At the moment I'm occupied with over-critizing every squeak and squeal the truck makes. I blew the head gasket in april, 14 hours from home. Ouch. I'm still a bit hesitant to go on long trips. Saturday will find me searching for the culprit of a rough idle at startup. I'm thinking maybe cold start injector/relay. (yes, I did some searches)

Anyhow, it's good to be here.
