YotaTech Summer Campout Greenwater, WA.

Please note that the date will change.
I had to input a date in here though for the thread to work with the plug-in that schedules the events.

I was yakking with Chris (member Tofer) and we decided it would be fun to get some members together from the area to camp out up at Greenwater

There is an abundance of free camping up there, and many spots are on the river up there.

Off of Forest Service Road 70 are lots of spots further up about eight miles where you turn onto 70 that are on the river.
Most of the lower spots have been ruined by the logging outfits who have "trenched" the roads leading in making you park along the outer road and carrying all of your gear in.

They did this to prevent the homeless from living up there I would imagine, and to prevent vehicles from leaking oil into the water.

I will be doing some scouting up there sometime in May to look for some good spots.
I know of a few on 70 that will hold around 10 rigs, maybe more

Also there are some good spots further up highway 410 on FS Road 73 on Huckleberry Creek.

I just got off the phone with the White River Ranger station, and there is still three feet or more of snow as soon as you turn off of the highway.

It would not do much good to explore the area right now until we get a meltdown up there.

I would head up early Friday (might take the day off) to setup camp.
I also pretty much would not be doing any 4wheeling, I would mainly be hanging out at the campsite getting some much needed R&R.

But there are tons of roads/trails you can explore up there, and there should be little snow up there come mid June or so.
Some at the higher elevations will exist though on the main FS roads.

I am getting back into camping after taking several years off from it.
Getting stocked up on the right gear to make my trips enjoyable.

For those who want to camp, you might think about some sort of crapper to bring along.
Beats digging a hole up there

Also a good idea to bring your own firewood, although there is a lot of clear cut areas that have leftover wood laying around

If this turns out to be a good event, maybe we could do another one later on in the summer.

FYI, this is a bunch of crock.
$5 a day for a pass, or $30 for a one year pass.

Both available at the ranger station in Enumclaw, and the Greenwater store.

Back when I did tons of camping up there 10 to 25 years ago it was free, and there were lots of nice spots.

Over the past several years, they have "trenched" the entrance to many a good site, and you are forced to park along the outside by the road, then carry your gear in.

There are still many good spots up there, but it looks like you have to have the pass.

This really ticks me off, as there is less good camping now, and now you gotta pay to play.

I will stop by this Friday to get my one year pass.

Some of those are so deep you can stand in them and have your head at the top.

One of my favorite spots to back my tent trailer into was just up 70 about three miles or so on the left, right on the river.

The entrance was at an angle, so driving up the road you have to flip a U turn and come back down, then back up into it.

I would put the rear end of the trailer about five feet from the edge of the river.

This site was big enough for about three rigs with trailers.
Once they trenched it, it was ruined for any with an RV.

It was a good spot too for body surfing.
We would walk upstream about 1/4 mile, then just float down on our bellies or a tube.

The water was only about four feet at the deepest, sometimes more, it was real safe to do that.
Cold water though, and I use to bathe in it too
It was snow run off that fed that stream there.

Weather update:

OK, some here have heard me speak of my neighbor the weatherman for the FAA office in Auburn.
This guy is right about 99% of the time.

Friday afternoon he told me not to make plans for Saturday, and I told him I was going to wash the rig and then spend the day detailing it, as the local news channels said no rain until late afternoon towards the evening.
He said it would rain about 9 am Saturday.

Sure enough, just as soon as I got done moving my ARB fridge to the new location, it started in raining a few minutes after 9 am.
I had to hold my hand over the camera lens to get the pictures.
This guy is good, all he does is eat, sleep, talk about the weather.

Anyways, he just stopped by my place to let me know June is shaping up to be a much cooler and wetter than normal month.

Should we pick a weekend longer out say Friday the 11th of July?
July around here is for the most part much warmer/drier than June is.
That is the weekend after the three day weekend, as July the 4th is on a Friday.

Ready set go!

The date sounds OK with me.
Just hope I am not sick

There is something going around the office here.
First one of our heat & vent guys had it, then a woman in the office was coming down with it last Friday she told me.
She took Monday and Tuesday of this week off.

Now our lead has it, and he came to work today.
Others told him to go home and not spread it.
He may take tomorrow off, but the damage is already done if he is infectious.
Once it starts going around, I more than likely end up with it with my immune system.

Last time it cost me a weekend plus a Monday & Tuesday off on sickleave.
)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

I bought a shower from Cabelas, it will arrive tomorrow at my home.
Tired of bathing is cold creeks/rivers when primitive camping.

Everyone should make sure they have their crapper situation figured out too.
I do not share my crapper
