Wheeling trip to MOAB, UT

Road trip to Moab, UT. I'm in the very early stages of planning a road trip to Moab. As most of you know Moab is probably 4x4 heaven in the states. Looking at mid/late July/into early August 2015, I know summer in the desert...........but It's dry heat. I plan on making it about 9-11 days for me since I will be traveling from Atlanta. Travels will be off grid/self sustaining 4x's/camping etc...(with replenishment of course). Open to all input/discussion, hope to see you on the trails.

And you can camp up in the LaSals if you need a break from the heat. We usually stay at Sand Flats otherwise. Milt's has a great burger after a day of fun. I like the Moab Diner and Eklectica for breakfast. Free filtered water can be had at GearHeads along with all sorts of fun gear and the grocery store's across the street. Excellent hiking, biking and wheeling opportunities abound!

Just getting over the mountains can be a great time too, like doing all or part of the Alpine Loop....lots to be had, lots of skill and capability choices.

Moab's got a decent info center too, a library with interweb computers and a small city park with green grass, trees and a cool musical playground. It's a nice place to picnic. The recycle center is on the way up to Sand Flats, or there's bins at the info center too. Drink lots, something with some electrolytes. It's certainly nothing like the soup you're used to dealing with (surprisingly, there are mosquitoes). Watch those afternoon storms and downpours. There's trip reports on here, if you're looking for ideas.

Your right about that. I had a project for work a few years back in ST. Louis, did the Arch and some of the night life, still open for more though. Probably looking to camp the night there and spend half a day or so that next morning.

I'm starting to put together a motor swap that will be taking place (probably all of) this year, depending on cost and availability of parts. Once that's done I would very much like to take part in a trip like this. unfortunately I very much doubt it will be happening this year.. You'd better take lots of pics for me!

Well TECHNICALLY both of them run, one of them is just in dire need of a rebuild and the other is about 30k from needing a refresher. So I figured I'd have a little fun and get better mpg doing it. now all i need is an extra LSJ and the trans to go behind it... Then I'll get to work. went prowling the junkyards today, no luck yet for a motor but I did find a promising candidate for a snorkel air box.
