WATTORA in Tahuya 11/23 lets hear the scoop

How about some pics, vids, stories, and damage reports. As for my truck, on the way home I noticed that the vehicle drives straight, yet the steering wheel is turned slightly left.
I heard also that Wild Bill had to break out the scuba gear.

Hey Jon,
Rob has that problem on his rig also. Drives straight but his steering wheel is turned to the right. He thinks it may have happened on that first hill drop.

Looks like Bill finally met up with Rob at the mud bog area.
Of course he was led to the deep area where he ended up taking in water in the cab and had to be pulled out.
Being Wild Bill and only running on two cylinders he gave it another try. Not sure what happened then.

Damn Smitty Nerfs!

Hey Guys,
Thanks for a great run at Tahuya today. I have been there many times, but never with a big group of other drivers. I was looking at the badland bumpers site, and I think that I am going to get their sliders, as well as the front and rear bumpers, and eventually a roll cage. I have seen their sliders on a couple of trucks today, but anyone have experience with their bumpers? Again, thanks for a great run, and I hope to see you on another future run. (BTW, I can't wait to see the footage of my run that killed the nerfs-I am proud that I didn't wuss out like many of the guys did.-You know who you are!!)

Hi Romeo, Jeff's (Badland's) sliderz are great.
Did you see this post today?
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...&threadid=3692

I got some close-up shots of them "clean" for a change since they were powder coated a month ago.

I also have some pics in there of the new Taco bumper, and that bumper can be made for the 2nd gen as well if you dig the design.

I think if I did not have my ARB, I'd get the one that is on Carol's Taco.

I have a ton more close-up pics of his bumper in this folder.
http://www.pnw4runners.net/badland_bumpers/

The October folder is mainly shots of Carol's rig with that bumper, and some shots of the rear tube bumper that Jeff builds.

The folder from May have the other designs Jeff builds.

Hey LA, can you post the vid of me rockin the rig on that steep drop? I'd like to check that out.
Mike, I guess that Bill also visited the 'outdoor' body shop (if you know what I mean) on the very first run down that steep drop off that most of us by-passed, and I believe that the body work was done by one of the trees halfway down the hill.
I saw a post that Bill is going out on the Evans Creek run. I may plan to make it just because he's so fun to 4x4 with. He always has the balls to try something where others would wuss out, and he'll try it first.
The mud pit was a blast also. I was kind of taking my chances with my rig though, because I forgot to bring my deck plate cover.

Tahuya

Well I met my match with the mud hole.
I took on about 4 inches of water in the cab. Also still running on about 3 cylinders.
Was alot of fun and will have truck back running this afternoon.
Still going to try and go to Evans creek today.
Bill

Hey Bill, I would have gone with you today but I was out in Roslyn helping a buddy get ready to open up his snowmoble business.
But I hope to connect again soon. Jon

Water Hole

Heres a sneak peak of some of the guys having fun in the water. Unfortunately this was all the vids I took. I was having too much fun playing all day.

LA had me preview some of his vids and they look awesome. Hopefully we'll be seeing them soon.

Here ya go.

OUCH!

As some of you heard, I cam down off a large step on the Tahuya run and afterward found my steering wheel to be off center to the right by about 40 degrees.

This morning I took it in for an alignment and found the problem. The steering rack is shot. There is close to an inch of play in the rack on the drivers side and it makes a nifty crunching sound when you jack the truck up, grab the left front wheel and shove.

Diagnosis: Time for a new rack.

Rob,
Was that the step that claimed my right nerf bar? Whoa. Did any of the other Tacomas experience a problem with the drop? Sounds expensive. Good luck.

Yep, the very one that did macramé with your nerf I noticed the steering was off as soon as we made it down to the "lake", but it seemed to track fine, so I didn't think too much of it. I figured I needed an alignment, but no such luck.

The parts retail for $997 and three hours of shop time

Mark, in the black Tacoma caved in his front. left fender after he left the mud hole, but I don't have a damage figure. But, as far I know, you, me and Wild Bill are the only ones who attempted that drop.

My skids will be here this month

But, it wouldn't have helped. The rack got stripped from the impact on the wheel and I don't think any amount of skid coverage will keep the wheels/tires from touching the gound
