Nor Cal to Moab. What to expect, where to wheel?

I have always dreamed of wheeling in Moab. That dream may come true soon this year. My brother lives in Grand Junction, CO. It would cost more to get an airplane ticket to visit him, than what it would cost in gas to drive out to Moab. So we may be planning a trip.

I have driven the 4runner cross country many times, but I have never wheeled so far away from my home. Where my shop, welders and tools are in case I break something. So I have never done a huge wheeling trip like this, where if I break something, I may be majorly screwed. I am going to be doing tons of research on some of the best places wheel for slightly built vehicles, where to camp. What should I expect. I already carry tons of spare parts and tools. I may be making the trip solo, I may have a couple buddies with me. This is still all being planned.

Just kinda wanted anybody to throw in anything about their experiences wheeling in moab. And how they may have prepared for a trip thats very far away from home.

My rig is an 87 4runner, 33's, slightly lifted, chevy's, aussie in the back. Armored all to hell for body and drivetrain. Great mechanical condition
