Greenwater May 17th

It looks like Scott and my families will be heading to Greenwater this coming Saturday for a little fun run. Families invited. We'll be taking our wives and kids. I hear that it's supposed to snow Saturday down to about 3000'. I little bit of fun for the kids. Scott can get his new tires dirty and I can break in all the new stuff. With all the work I've done over the past 3 weeks, I don't want to hit anything too hard, too soon.

I'd love to go, but I have a lot going on now, and I can't break away.

I was up there last month with Todd, and it was nice to get out up there for a few hours.

I might be able to make it. You guys aren't going to do any trails too hardcore are you? I have my sliders, but I haven't had them welded on yet.....Any of you guys know how to weld? Maybe you guys can teach this newbie wheeler a thing or two if I can make it.

Salue, I know how to weld. OK, so I don't know how to weld, but I do weld...

We plan to have a very easy day, get the kids out to play in the snow. Scott needs to get his new tires dirty and I have a lot of stuff to test out.

Where are you coming from?

I'll be coming from up North here in Redmond. What time do you guys plan on leaving? I shall try to convince my girlfriend to come along too. Since you say you don't know how to weld, but do weld, you wouldn't want to hone your skills by say....Welding on some sliders would you

We could do that sometime - weld your sliders that is.

We'll be leaving Milton around 9:00am. We should be at the safeway in Enumclaw at about 9:45. We'll be on CB Channel 5.

Is this still going to be on even with the downpour? Also, a friend of mine would like to meet up also but he can't leave til around 11 AM. Is there a map of the area that you guys can point me to so that maybe he can meet us somewhere or do you know which area we're going to explore? Do cell phones work up there?

It's still going on because of the downpour. The muddier the better. I don't know if cell phones work up there.

I can't leave later as I have to be back between 1 and 2 o'clock.

I'll post a little in the morning. It looks like were going to try to follow FS71 from 410 to the Clear West Peak trail. I don't know where you'll get a map, but there is a Ranger station near Enumclaw that may have a map.

We'll be of CB channel 5.

Thanks for coming along guys. Salue I hope out kid time wasn't too much of an interference since it took a lot of driving time out of the picture.

Anyway, it was nice to meet you and my little brother

At least you got stuck once, so you got to have a little fun!

Why didn't yeah head into that mud hole? You had a couple of trucks to pull you out! Ya gotta get that thing dirty.

One thing you'll learn if ya wheel with the Faithwheelers, we'll never push you or your truck into something that will injure either one. That doesn't mean carnage will never happen, but if ya ask is for a spot or line, or if you should or shouldn't do something, we'll give you an answer that you can trust.

Sometimes you'll not believe what even a stock 4Runner with a good set of tires can do. That doesn't mean that you'll never get stuck or that you'll make every obstacle, but that's when you get winched or strapped out.

Anyway, we hope to see you out again sometime.

Hey Scott, I like those new tires, but we want some scoop on what happened in the mud hole, since I wasn't there. Did anyone get some pics that we can post!

Hey Scott, you asked me today if I was using my crawler gears today. I didn't think I was, but with 20 forward gears and 3 shifters, it's a little confusing. I was not in low low but I did have the rear transfer case in low which means I was running the 4.7:1 gears instead of the standard 2.8:gears. The front transfer case was not in low however. So, I was partially using the crawler gears.

Hey Dale,
after seeing Scott in the Tacoma getting stuck within just 20' from the entrance I decided to just stick that mud pit out. The kids playing was no hindrance at all. I'm glad I finally met up with you guys, I had a great time. I just posted some pics that I took with my digicam. greenwater

I look forward to meeting up with you guys again soon.

Salue

Maybe next time I won't be so :chicken:

Salue, thanks for posting the pics. Most of the pics I took were with a film camera, so it is going to be a while before I get them posted.

Even thought I got stuck a couple time in the sloppy mud I am very happy with my Parnelli Jones DirtGrips. I did not air them down at all for this run, but they still did really good. I tried to break them loose and the gravel road and couldn't. They definitely chew through stuff really well. For snow as beep as we got to, fully aired up, they may not be the best for floating on top, as they just chewed and chewed at the snow, eventually reaching a good purchase. The did not allow snow to get compacted under them and turn into ice. They also clean themselves out really well. Did I already say I am really happy with them?

Good run guys. I can't hardly wait to do it again either!

Great pics! Glad to see you guys got to play after we left. Wish we could have hung around. I did find out that my tranny was almost dry - hope I didn't burn anything up. I'd put oil in it after I put it back in, but hadn't checked it after running it for a while. I added almost 3 quarts till it was full again.

Salue, you asked me a question out there about my air pressure. The first time I aired down, I was at about 15 lbs. When I had to go around Scott and off the trail, I knew I'd need some additional flotation. I didn't check my pressure at the time but when I aired up down the road, all my tires were between 4-6 lbs. If I'd not aired down the second time, I doubt I would have gotten through that unbroken snow.

Wow! 4-6 lbs, I didn't think you aired down that much. I was also wondering, did you have your lockers engaged at all during the run?

Oh yeah! I engaged the rear locker shortly after we first aired down. Don't forget that I got to break trail :o)

I engaged the front locker when we hit the first really soft spot and I turned them off after we turned around. I didn't figure I'd need them once I was driving on the packed snow. It wouldn't have hurt anything to leave them on, but makes it a little more fun without them
