to trade my truck or not to trade my truck?

that is the question!!!

messing around at my girlfriends house this old guy walks over and starts talking to my about how nice my truck is and how he wants something JUST like it, says hell trade even for something just like mine, figure w/e i like my truck but figure ill take a look at his....

2003 Ford F150 Heritage Edition, 43,000 miles with a 5.4 and all the extras

very nice looking truck, very clean, has a 40gal fuel tank with pump in the bed too

..... my truck is a 94 pickup with 22re, 32x11.5 mt, 5speed, 142K miles on body 45K on motor/ clutch

Well, acctually, yes you definetally should, that f-150 is worth at least 10K (where I live anyway) it has low miles, looks mint, and has the 5.4 (pretty much the only good ford motor still made) If you miss the toyota, sell the ford and just buy another 7 of them. I would do this deal in a heart beat. I am not saying I don't love yota's, this is just common sense.

I would trade in a heartbeat. Sell the Ford and then buy a Tacoma. Trust me you do not want to keep that Ford truck. Make some money off of the deal.

I bet he isnt talking a straight up trade...He's prolly leading you on and then is pop out the catch that you have to add 3-4k.That truck is worth 10k yours is 3-4k.If he trades you straight up, you sir need to play the lottery everyday.

If it's a straight up trade, do it for sure. If he wants cash on top, don't bother.

haha, thats what i figured, just thought if i post it in a yota forum (where obv were all bias towards the yota) and people still say take the ford, i was right in my thinking

he wants to do the trade staight up, hes an old man who doesnt care about money anymore and just wants to have something smaller, better on gas, and has the look of my truck... went back to talk to him some more and he said hell have to talk to his son first before he makes any final decision (prob will tell him not to do it)... also he said he used the truck for towing 1000lb trailers for work and every so often a 12000lb trailer for a race car (mind you the towing capacity is 8000) and the truck currently has commerical plates (that wouldnt be hard to switch over right?)

all in all i doubt his son will tell him to do it but if he does, and the tranny drives good, ill be the proud owner of a 2003 f150, not getting my hopes up but well see.....

If you are a mech, or know a good one, get it thoroughly checked out first.
I know the 2005' and newer fords have some nightmare problems, first of all, the way you have to remove sparkplugs is a joke, and some other probs as well.
I don't know about the 2003's, but your mech should have some good technical info on them...
If it is all good, a 2003, with 40 plus k miles on it, is like just barely beginning
to break in, I would be all over that.

If it's too good to be true, then it probably isn't. As mentioned above he'll probably want a few bucks added in.

That or he's having maintenance issues with the truck.

Go into this with your eyes open.

Wow..

I don't see one complaint in that whole sentence of his ....

Plus, he isn't going to get $10k out of his rigs to afford a decent cummins

So chill, no need to be snippy.

All big 3 are cheaply made, that's why they're built in mexico or canada .....

and scions/new toyotas arent cheaply made? EVERYTHING is being cheaply made now... from toyotas to fords to beemers to mercedes. the problem the american companies have (hence why they went under/except ford) is their fleets are too big. look at BMWs or mercedes, they only have a few models, unlike the american companies, that have so many models. thats what keeping other companies afloat, they arent spending money on useless models that no ones gonna buy (think Jeep liberty/patriot/compass/commander, same model diff name).
on that note, take the ford. the 5.4 is a good engine. if anything, turn around, sell it, and buy another yota, and use the extra money to fix it up. at least thats what Id do.

the jeep liberty isn't a patriot or even close

the patriot = caliber = compass ... those are all the same vehicle

MY wife's Kia was built in colorado .. and wasn't cheaply made. Seats are handstitched.

comes standard with 7 air bags, disc brakes, power everything, bluetooth and satellite...

tons of electronic gizmos for power control and her power steering is electronic ... weird ...

Last I heard Toyota was a big presence here in Canada too. And why would something produced here be cheaply made?

Because it's cheaper?

doesn't exactly mean canadian made cars are cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Dealership and it's in our manual. The cloth and leather interiors were done by hand.

The only thing I don't like is the 'drive by wire'. Makes the car really sensitive.

I'm an old school slow revving v8 / diesel kinda guy. That little car feels like a rc car

Meanwhile back to the original post.

X2 on to good to be true. Don't fool yourself that this oldtimer don't care about money. Maybe he's senial or he's got a trick up his sleeve. I'm always leary of a free ride or maybe I'm just paranoid. If dude uses the truck for 10,000 to 12,000 towing at work and home why's he want a smaller Toyota to replace it. Remember "if it looks like a duck sounds like a duck its a duck."
