time to find a 4runner

well its time to get rid of my ford ranger so the question was qasked last nite my fiance is pregnat and she asked me about what i am going to do with my 2dr ford ranger and the first thing that popped into my head hey i should get a 87 or 88 4runner the ones with the removeable top and she is cool with that(which is a shock) to me and of course it has to be 4x4 cant get a 2wd 4runner that just wouldnt make sense well not to me anyway. i am super excited i am going to be a father and im going to be able to get a 4x4 4runner this has been the start to a great week it can olny get better im just prayin its going to be a boy. so the question i would like to ask yall is should i get the 22re or 3.0 i know the 22re is easier to work on and somewhat better gasmileage im tryin to find a manual for the reason that they are easier to work on and more fun offroad what is yalls opion on this

If I had 3K I'd already own it.

My mom and dad brought home my little brother from the hospital in an 88 4runner. That thing was the family cruiser for years.

You're gonna need the dependability so I'd go with the 22re

I second the fact that it's hard to get stuff in the back of a first Gen.. and they only have lap belt seat belts.. Not the best for car seats or small children..

Not to mention the suspension system. I think the toddler will need a softer ride so his/her brain isn't scrambled.

Why not get a family car and then your own car? My family (fiance and I, no kids) have a subaru outback (great car. better family car) and my truck. My truck is a single cab and not great for kids, but we can manage with just the subaru. If it was an extreme emergency and I needed to take the kid somewhere, I have the passenger seat for no seatbelt.

When I grew up, we only had one car/truck. It wasn't until I was about 8 or 9 that we got a second (a classic VW beetle.) So it should be easy to manage with just one car.

Do a search as "Auto Hubs" or "manual hubs" or "swapping hubs".. Never know what you're gonna find after a quick search..
