should I buy this car?

Check this out and tell me if it's a good idea. If I get it for 2,000 or less I am willing to put 2 or 3 back in it. Why is it so cheap? What am I missing?

Why so cheap? Its going to have a salvage title since it's from an auction. Dont necessarily buy it, but definitely go check it out and if its good, go with it. Be a little weary though, auctioned cars like that are usually from DUI impounds and the such. A few of my friends have gotten vehicle from auctions with little to no problems, but still check it out thoroughly. It looks pretty cool though. FJ-60/62s are bad ass.
Also, did you read the description? He said the transmission had some problems.

I did, how much do you think repairing or replacing the transmission would be?

I dont know whats wrong with it, I've never worked on autos. If you were to replace it, it would cost what a new/used tranny plus labor if you dont do it yourself. It depends on your area and the shops around you.

Looks like a very sweet deal. Too good to be true? Just my two cents: I've learned to check out the vehicle as best I can. Check the vitals, idle speed, timing, vacuum, compression. Check belts, hoses and fluid levels and conditions. Says he changed the oil? Check this too! Bang on the frame with a ballpeen. Pull a wheel, front and rear. Or bring a mechanic. If the seller has a problem with you going detail on it, then say goodbye. One thing (of many) I need help with is tranny trouble, but having to warm up the trans to be able to shift for the whole day sounds like it needs work. One should be able to shift a cold tranny just fine. But you know it's gotta have some problems for you at that mileage and asking price. Hope this helps.

Its an old vehicle and its going to need some work, so just completely look it over inside and out, and test drive and listen for any strange sounds, and if everything seems ok then buy it. even if you need to have the trans rebuilt/replaced it would be worth it in my opinion. I have no idea what it would cost to have the trans rebuilt, probably some were between five hundred to one thousand dollars, and that only a guess.

Why do an FJ60 when you could buy an FJ80 that needs zero work and has 1/2 the miles! Oh look... I've got one for sale: $5,500 for Toyota geeks like me

Let me know if you're interested.

Cheers

dude. its a 62 get it right. newbies

check out ih8mud. lots of lc info over there. I know quite a few people that have 62s and they are pretty tip top. However I dont ever recall seeing that orange paint on a 62 though. The trans issue seems odd. I would definitely be leary of that. 300k on the drivetrain really isnt nothing for that drivetrain. $2k doesnt seem like a bad deal if you are one that doesnt mind working on your vehicle if problems should come up.

but if you are buying it for a dd that you wont have to work on, you might want to pass. also look for any oils stains under wear it is parked. usually an indicator of how bad a leak is if there is one.
