I would highly recommend you evaluate your financial position first. If you can support two vehicles, do just that. If you are using the 4runner as your primary form of transportation, it will eventually leave you stranded when you need it most. At minimum, it will require an intensive rebuild, putting it out of commission for a little (or long) while.
If you're prepared to invest the time, and eventually, quite a bit of money, go for it. If you're prepared to source parts online or from junkyards, and enjoy doing so, go right ahead. If you're not prepared to chop out rusty A-pillars, I'd slowly start looking for a new vehicle while this one limps along. If everything goes well, this one will remain running long enough for you to get your next car. From what you describe, to get the truck running in good shape, it will take close to the investment cost (at least up here; I'm not sure how prices are down there). Good luck, khany2002 |

ok to give a bit more background I have 2 vehicles well had 3 now two. I have the truck which I split daily duty with my motorcycle but that lost the motor so its out of the picture. But the truck I bought with the plans to fix it up I'm only driving it currently until I get my other vehicle (81 vw scirocco on steroids that I'm almost finished megasquirting.) The plan has always been for the truck to go under the knife when the rocco was done. I have the time, money, and knowledge to do all the work myself minus the welding which I can find someone to help me out with. But is it worth it or can I sell this one and buy another one thats done for the most part for less then it would cost me to fix this one. I figure with any rig a rebuild of sorts is going to be in the picture as most of these trucks have 200k+ miles on them and I don't really trust rebuilds done by other people ( based on my experiences)
