Help me pick out my new 4Runner (Pics!)

Hey guys just heading out for work but I wanted some insider's advice on a couple trucks I've been looking at and your opinion on which one is right for me.

#1. haven't drove this one yet but the owner is set at $2,500

1988 TOYOTA 4RUNNER $3495 OBO

-Re geared
-Low engine miles
-Good shape
-A/C
-5 spd
-CD player
-All terrain tires
- 2 inch lift

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#2. I drove this one last night, it was running a little rich, and it won't pass smog because a few sensors weren't hooked up after a recent engine swap (blown 1987 22re to 1991 22re). He has the receipts to back this up. This one is on top of my list right now because it's manual, was pretty clean as far as cosmetics go and it felt like it rolled well.

NICE 4 RUNNER, READY FOR OFF ROAD, THE TRUCK IS 87', BUT THE ENGINE IS 91', I HAVE ALL THE RECEIPTS, EVERYTHING WORK VERY GOOD, INSIDE AND OUTSIDE, AC,ELECTRIC WINDOWS, CD STEREO SITEMS, LIGHTS, ETC, NICE TIRE AND WELLS, TITLE IN HAND, CALL ME AT 702 8077397, 702 3276902, THANKS

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#3.This one the interior was pretty shot: carpet stained, power windows need new switch, it's automatic and was hard to shift into gear due to the plastic shroud being messed up + it had the 3.slow... (this one is bottom of the list).

1988 Toyota 4-Runner SR5- $2000.00 o.b.o. Stock 3.0 L V-6. Runs and drives, needs TLC and the window/lock control switch on the drivers door. BF Goodrich All Terrain Tires, New Battery, Sunroof, Power Locks/Windows, AC. Last year of the two door/removable hard top model. Second owner since 2002, hate to see it go, but I can't drive two vehicles at once. 702-205-7896- Nathan

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

#4. This one is second to last. It has the 22re the body and interior was in good shape but it was a absolute dog to drive. It looked like it was leaking PS fluid, I could barely get it up to 55 on a 1/2 mi. of road and it was auto... (are these always that slow?)

1986 RED TOYOTA 4RUNNER FOR SALE. 4X4, AUTOMATIC, RUNS GOOD, LOOKS VERY NICE INSIDE & OUT. INTRESTED CALL 702-782-8358

I think I'm pretty much sold on #2 right now but how hard will some sensors be to fix? The harnesses were all there it was just they re-used the 87 harness with the 91 engine and everything didn't connect right up (or so he says). The truck is pretty much going to be a work truck so my lovely wife can drive the taco and we're not juggling who has the truck so much.

Thank you for any opinions everyone!

p.s. if anyone thinks they have a better find for me close to Vegas don't be afraid to post it up.

How much do they want for the 2nd one. The 3.0 suck! The 22r or 22re are much better. I like 1 and 2. The others I would get if they were so very low in price.

if you go with #2, you will more than likely have to find an electrical schematic to match the pins in the connectors. get some solder, soldering iron, heat shrink, schematics and have at it!

have a second set of eyes check and test things before you shrink the splices. if you can get the old connections WITH some extra wire still on, it might make splicing and connceting easier. let us know how things work out.

Hey guys thanks for the reply. The prices we're

1. $3495 obo - I was going to offer him $2500 if it was as clean as it looks.

2. $ 2200 obo - I was going to try to hit him low at first like $1500 but wouldn't pay more then $1700

3. $2000 obo - when I talked to him he pretty much just told me I'll give it to you for $1500.

4. $1800 - I would prob only pay $1200 at most for that one. it was a dog!!

#2 is really looking good right now. I'll post up after I drive #1. The electrical splicing doesn't scare me, that sounds pretty easy. Thanks everyone!!

Ok I just got back from driving #1. It runs great. there's 214,*** mi. on the clock but the engine is supose to be only 70,*** mi. old. The only things i don't like about it is it looks like it has a little oil leak from the rear main and the price. If I buy it for $2500 am I getting a "DEAL!" or am I getting ripped off?

$2000-$1700 for #2 or $2500 for #1??? $500 is a lot of cash...

1 and 2 both look good. If you aren't scared of electrical that makes even more of a tossup. Is #2 regeared? It looks like it has bigger tires as well.

What are your plans for it? Lockers? If so, one that is regeared wouldn't mean much.

Oooh, I got it. #2 has an Inclinometer/Altimeter. WINNER!

But seriously, both look good. But are the one who is driving em all. Is #1 really $500 better then #2? Thats up to you.

Good luck, and let us know which one you get!!

Number one looks the best, but I think $2,500 is a little much.Offer/flash $1,900 at his eyeballs, mention the leak.Have a mechanic check it out.How many owners has the vehicle had?Have you driven it on the highway at 70mph for 10 or 20 miles? just ideas, good looking runner though

Hey guys, so I went with #1. I tried to offer less but the owner was happy to just let me leave for any less then $2500 so I got it. It's a lot for a older truck but it's the cleanest one I've seen in town and didnt want to walk away.

I did get to drive it on the freeway, for about 6 mi., and it runs as smooth as my tacoma so I had no complaints there.

Pictures! Sry for all the shadows.

p.s. thank you mod for moving me to the correct forum

Don't worry about the rear main its an easy fix, I've done two when doing two different clutches it is a pain to get to if that is all you need to do but something that could get done on a weekend. It looks like a really nice clean rig I wish mine looked that nice and seeing as how I now have over $2500 into both of mine and they still don't look that nice I think its a good deal. Enjoy!

That thing is pretty clean, congrats!!

Is it bad when you see pics of a newly purchased rig and start drooling bc you can see all the little projects awaiting? "

Hey thanks everyone for all the encouragement! Today I checked the compression in all cylinders. It sounds to good to be true but every one of them was right at 130+ so I'm thrilled to say the least. Cleaned out the intake and it starts soo much smoother. I'm hooked on another Toy! I'm going to be getting it registered and was thinking about some custom plates. Here's some of the ones I looked up and it said they were available:
SAR 4x4
JEEPSAR
JO3S 4X4
CRZN4X4
JEEPHTR (I wouldn't really get this one)
SLOW4X4
There were a couple more but I can't remember them all now. I'll keep you posted! thanks everyone!
